The Faroe Islands is served by an internal transport system based on roads, ferries, and helicopters. As of the 1970s, the majority of the population centres of the Faroe Islands have been joined to a single road network, connected by bridges and tunnels.
Tórshavn, usually locally referred to as simply Havn, is the capital and largest city of the Faroe Islands. It is located in the southern part on the east coast of Streymoy. To the northwest of the city lies the 347-meter-high (1,138 ft) mountain Húsareyn, and to the southwest, the 350-meter-high (1,150 ft) Kirkjubøreyn. They are separated by the Sandá River. The city itself has a population of 14,065 (2023), and the greater urban area has a population of 23,194, including the suburbs of Hoyvík and Argir.
Frederiksberg Kommune is a municipality on the island of Zealand (Sjælland) in Denmark. Part of the Capital Region of Denmark and the city of Copenhagen, it is surrounded by Copenhagen Municipality. The municipality, co-extensive with its seat, covers a total area of 8.71 km2 according to the Municipal Key Figures and has a population of 104,664 making it the smallest municipality in Denmark area-wise, the seventh most populous, and the most densely populated. Its mayor is Michael Vindfeldt from the Social Democrats serving from 1 January 2022.
Klaksvík is the second largest town of the Faroe Islands behind Tórshavn. The town is located on Borðoy, which is one of the northernmost islands. It is the administrative centre of Klaksvík municipality.
Eysturoy is a region and the second-largest of the Faroe Islands, both in size and population.
Runavík is a comparatively urbanised village in Runavík Municipality, Faroe Islands. It lies on the south half of the isle of Eysturoy.
Strandfaraskip Landsins is the government agency for public transport in the Faroe Islands. It is owned by the Faroese national government under the Ministry of Finance (Fíggjamálaráðið) and runs seven ferry routes and a number of bus routes.
The West Nordic Council is a cooperation forum of the parliaments and governments of Greenland, the Faroe Islands, and Iceland. It was initially founded in 1985 as the West Nordic Parliamentarian Council of Cooperation but the name was changed in 1997. The council comprises six MPs from each nation appointed by their respective parliaments. The annual general meeting of the council rotates between the members and is its highest authority. The work and activities of the council are organized by a three-member presidium of which the president of the council is a member. The August 2017 to September 2018 president was Kári P. Højgaard.
Uni Jógvanson Arge is a Faroese journalist, writer, musician, singer and a former international football striker.
Jákup Nolsøe Mikkelsen is a Faroese former footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He made 522 league appearances in representing six clubs in a career spanning 25 years, also representing his country at international level.
Christian Høgni Jacobsen is a Faroese football striker, who lastly played for NSÍ. Jacobsen has also played for HB, and B68. He has been the topscorer of the Faroe Islands Premier League 3 times. Jacobsen had spells in Denmark with Esbjerg, Vejle, AB, and ÍF Føroyar. He has gained caps with Faroe Islands at senior level.
Fjarðabyggð is a municipality located in eastern Iceland, in the Eastern Region.
The Tour of Faroe Islands is a road cycling race held in the Faroe Islands. The race consists of a men's, women's and juniors' competition over a prologue and four or five stages, which are for elite cyclists and shorter distances for non-elite cyclists. From 2011 to 2013, the race was changed to four stages in three days. The first edition of the Kring Føroyar tour was held in 1996 but it was not an official race; the 1997 Tour was the first official edition of the race. The race is normally held in July shortly before Ólavsøka. In 2012 the race was held from 20 July to 22 July. The last day of the race is held in Tórshavn, and the roads are closed for traffic on that day. In 2015 the race will be held from 22–26 July. For sponsor reasons the name of the tour was Statoil Kring Føroyar, and later when the Faroese company changed its name from Statoil to Effo, the tour was called Effo Kring Føroyar. In 2014 the race got a new main sponsor and the name was changed to Volvo Kring Føroyar. As of 2015, the length of the race is 430 kilometres (270 mi) for elite cyclists and 230 kilometres (140 mi) for youth and senior cyclists.
Eysturoyartunnilin is a large undersea road tunnel under the Tangafjørður sound in the Faroe Islands, connecting the island of Streymoy to the island of Eysturoy. It also crosses the southern part of Skálafjørður, and connects the towns of Runavík on the eastern side and Strendur on the western side of the fjord, and includes the world's first undersea roundabout in the middle of the network.
Árni Frederiksberg is a Faroese professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder or a winger for KÍ Klaksvík.
Heðin á Lakjuni is a former Faroese international footballer, who played as a full-back and a winger for four Faroese clubs in the top tier. Lakjuni started his career with KÍ Klaksvík and had spells with B36 Tórshavn, HB Tórshavn, and NSÍ Runavík. He has won the Faroe Islands Premier League 3 times, and the Faroe Islands Cup 4 times. Since April 2015 he holds the record for most league appearances with 417 matches in the Faroe Islands Premier League. He scored 100 goals in the Faroe Islands Premier League. Lakjuni has celebrated domestic doubles with three different teams.
Eiði Municipality is a municipality of the Faroe Islands. It is part of the Eysturoy region, and consists of a northwesterly part of the Eysturoy island. The municipality borders Runavík Municipality to the east and Sunda Municipality to the south and east. The population of the municipality is 810 (2023). The mayor of the municipality is Rógvi Egilstoft, and the municipal council consists of seven members elected every four years.
Sundini is the northern section of the sound separating the islands of Streymoy and Eysturoy in the Faroe Islands. The southern section of the strait is named Tangafjørður.
