Lorenzo Lanzi (born October 26, 1981 in Cesena, Italy) is a professional motorcycle racer most known for competing in the Superbike World championship. [1] He currently competes in the CIV Superbike Championship aboard a BMW S1000RR.
He first started racing in 1996 at the age of 15 in the Italian 125 Sport class, winning the title two years later before moving up to 125GP in the Italian and European championships. In 2001 he moved to 250GP but his season wasn’t a successful and he was forced to take a one-year break from racing in 2002.
2003 saw him racing for Rox Ducati in the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup. He lost out on the title by three points. In 2004 he moved to the Supersport World Championship riding for Ducati Breil finishing the season in 5th place.
In 2005 Lanzi joined the Caracchi Ducati team in the Superbike World Championship. He had a poor start of the season and injury kept him out of two rounds. A series of 8 successive top ten finishes earned him a promotion at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz round where he raced for the Xerox sponsored Ducati factory team in place of the injured Régis Laconi. He took pole position for the races. In race one he overshot the first corner and had to go down an escape road, seeing him cut several corners. He rejoined third, but had missed enough of the track to earn a ride-through penalty, dropping him down the field, although he fought back to 8th. However, in race 2 he took the win ahead of Chris Vermeulen and Noriyuki Haga. He got his 2nd superbike win at Magny-Cours race 2 later that year.
His 2005 performance was enough to earn him a place on the factory team for 2006. However, whilst team-mate Troy Bayliss dominated the season, Lanzi did not win any races. He finished the season 8th overall. He remained in the team for 2007, but he was once again overshadowed by his team mate and he was often behind Ruben Xaus who was riding a 2006-spec Ducati.
He was dropped by the factory Xerox Ducati team for 2008 but continued riding a Ducati, for Team RG. He took victory in Valencia race 1 - he overtook Troy Bayliss for third on the final lap, just before Max Neukirchner and Carlos Checa collided while battling for the lead. However, this was his only top-5 finish of the season, and he came 14th overall.

Nicholas Patrick Hayden, nicknamed "The Kentucky Kid", was an American professional motorcycle racer who won the MotoGP World Championship in 2006. Hayden began racing motorcycles at a young age. He began his road racing career in the CMRA before progressing to the AMA Supersport Championship and then to the AMA Superbike Championship. He won the AMA title in 2002 and was approached by the Repsol Honda team to race for them in MotoGP in 2003.
Marco Melandri is an Italian retired motorcycle road racer who is a five-time premier class race winner. He is the 2002 250 cc World Champion and runner-up in 125 cc, MotoGP and Superbike World Championship. He competed in the MotoGP class from 2003 to 2010 and then a brief return with Aprilia in 2015.
Colin Edwards II, nicknamed the "Texas Tornado", is an American former professional motorcycle racer who retired half-way through the 2014 season, but continues in the sport as a factory test rider. He is a two-time World Superbike champion and competed in the MotoGP class from 2003 to 2014.
Noriyuki Haga is a Japanese former professional motorcycle racer. He won 43 world championship superbike races during a 25 year racing career, making him one of the most accomplished competitors never to have won a Superbike World Championship. Haga was the runner-up in the championship three times and, four times finished in third place. His 43 victories ranks fourth all time in the history of the Superbike World Championship behind Jonathan Rea, Carl Fogarty and Troy Bayliss. Haga ranks fourth behind Troy Corser, Tom Sykes and Jonathan Rea in career World Superbike race starts with 313. He last competed in the 2018 CIV Supersport 600 Championship, aboard a Yamaha YZF-R6.
Troy Bayliss is an Australian motorcycle racer. During his career Bayliss won the Superbike World Championship three times and a MotoGP race, all with Ducati. He finished his career after winning the 2008 World Superbike title. His 52 World Superbike victories ranks third all time in the history of the championship behind Jonathan Rea and Carl Fogarty.
Neil Stuart Hodgson is a British former motorcycle racer, who won the 2000 British Superbike Championship, and the 2003 Superbike World Championship titles. He then went on to have a moderately successful four years in the American Superbike Championship, with a best 5th place championship finish.
Gregorio Lavilla is a Spanish former professional motorcycle road racer. He has raced in MotoGP, the Superbike World Championship, and the British Superbike Championship, taking the British crown in 2005. For 2008 he raced in WSB for the Ventaxia Honda team, finishing the championship in 12th place. He raced in four rounds of the 2009 WSB series with the Guandalini Racing Ducati team.
Carl George Fogarty,, often known as Foggy, is an English former motorcycle racer and one of the most successful World Superbike racers of all time. He also holds the second highest number of race wins at 59. He is the son of former motorcycle racer George Fogarty. In 2011, Fogarty was named a FIM Legend for his motorcycling achievements.
Régis Laconi is a French former professional motorcycle racer. In 2009 he competed in the Superbike World Championship for DFX on a Ducati. He was runner-up in 2004, and has won races in both Grand Prix in 500cc engine capacity classification and the Superbike World Championship.
Rubén Xaus is a retired motorcycle road racer. During his career he competed in both the Superbike World Championship and the MotoGP. He is nicknamed 'Spider-Man', as his lanky frame leads him to hang over the bike in an unusual way.
