The 2006 Superbike World Championship was the nineteenth FIM Superbike World Championship season. The season started on 25 February at Losail, and finished on 8 October at Magny-Cours after 12 rounds and 24 races. The original season calendar issued by the FIM included a 13th round scheduled in South Africa on 22 October but the round was cancelled at the request of the series' promoter FGSport. [1]

Contents

2006 saw the return of Australian Troy Bayliss in Superbike World Championship after 3 years in MotoGP. The combination of Bayliss and Ducati proved unstoppable and they dominated the season winning 12 races, 8 of them consecutive. Honda's James Toseland and Yamaha's Noriyuki Haga battled for second with the British rider coming on top. Defending champion Troy Corser on a Suzuki was fourth. The manufacturers' championship was won by Ducati.

Noriyuki Haga Japanese motorcycle racer

Noriyuki Haga is a Japanese former professional motorcycle racer. He won 43 world championship superbike races during a 25 year racing career, making him one of the most accomplished competitors never to have won a Superbike World Championship. Haga was the runner-up in the championship three times and, four times finished in third place. His 43 victories ranks fourth all time in the history of the Superbike World Championship behind Jonathan Rea, Carl Fogarty and Troy Bayliss. Haga ranks fourth behind Troy Corser, Tom Sykes and Jonathan Rea in career World Superbike race starts with 313. He last competed in the 2018 CIV Supersport 600 Championship, aboard a Yamaha YZF-R6.

Lorenzo Lanzi Italian motorcycle racer

Lorenzo Lanzi is a professional motorcycle racer most known for competing in the Superbike World championship. He currently competes in the CIV Superbike Championship aboard a BMW S1000RR.

The 2004 Supersport World Championship was the sixth FIM Supersport World Championship season—the eight taking into account the two held under the name of Supersport World Series. The season started on 29 February at Valencia and finished on 3 October at Magny-Cours after 10 races.

The 2005 Superbike World Championship was the eighteenth FIM Superbike World Championship season. The season started on 26 February at Losail and finished on 9 October at Magny-Cours after 12 rounds and 23 races. 2005 saw the return of the Japanese manufacturers with major teams from all four Japanese manufacturers ran through European importers' teams.

The 1999 Superbike World Championship was the twelfth FIM Superbike World Championship season. The season started on 28 March at Kyalami and finished on 10 October at Sugo after 13 rounds.

1999 Kyalami Superbike World Championship round

The 1999 Kyalami Superbike World Championship round was the opening round of the 1999 Superbike World Championship season and the 1999 Supersport World Championship season. It took place on the weekend of 26–28 March 1999 at the 4.26 km Kyalami Circuit in South Africa. The round was marred by the death of Brett MacLeod after a crash in the Supersport race.

Superbike World Championship is a silhouette-class road racing series based on heavily modified production motorcycles, also known as superbike racing.

The 2008 Superbike World Championship was the twenty-first season of the Superbike World Championship. Corona Extra ceased to be the championship's title sponsor, as it had been since 1998. The electronics manufacturer HANNspree took over as the title sponsor in 2008 and this arrangement remained in place until 2010, with the championship officially known as the "HANNspree SBK Superbike World Championship".

The 2004 Superbike World Championship was the seventeenth FIM Superbike World Championship season. The traditional Japanese round at Sugo was replaced with a new Canadian round which was scheduled for 4 July at the Mont-Tremblant, near Quebec. Though no explanation was given for the change, it was seen as some form of revenge after the refusal of the Japanese manufacturers to back the 2004 rules. The Canadian round was eventually canceled after a circuit inspection determined that the amount of work necessary to bring the venue up to WSBK standard could not be carried out in time for the proposed date.

Leandro Mercado Argentine motorcycle racer

Leandro Denis "Tati" Mercado is a motorcycle racer from Argentina, and is set to compete in the 2022 Superbike World Championship aboard a Honda CBR1000RR for Team MIE Racing. He is best known for winning the National title of the AMA Supersport Championship in 2009 and the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup in 2014.

The 2020 Motul FIM Superbike World Championship was the 33rd season of the Superbike World Championship.
