Miss Earth South Sudan is a title given to a South Sudanese who represents South Sudan at Miss Earth, which is an annual international beauty pageant promoting environmental awareness. [1] [2] [3] The national pageant of Miss Earth for South Sudan is conducted by Miss South Sudan Foundation to which Carousel Productions, the owner of Miss Earth, awarded the franchise in 2015. South Sudan debuted in Miss Earth in 2008 through Beauties of Africa as franchise holder and the winners of Miss Malaika- South Sudan's oldest pageant represented South Sudan in the Miss Earth pageant. However, Beauties of Africa lost the franchise in 2012. [6] [7] [8] [9] [10]
The Beauties of South Sudan was established in 2013 by Atong Demach. The pageant acquired South Sudan's franchise for Miss Earth. As part of their activities, they invited Tereza Fajksova, the Miss Earth 2012 winner, and she has become the first international beauty queen to visit South Sudan in 2013. She went to South Sudan for various environmental activities as well as to crown the very first Miss Earth South Sudan from Beauties of South Sudan franchise, which was won by Gloria Karsis. [11]
The Beauties of South Sudan winner would automatically represent South Sudan at the Miss Earth pageant. However, in 2015, the franchise was lost from Beauties of South Sudan for failing to send a representative in 2014. Although the said organization has a representative elected to compete through Siran Samuel. [12]
The Miss South Sudan Foundation acquired the franchise in 2015. The CEO of the said foundation is another Miss Earth South Sudan delegate, Aheu Deng. [5] Miss Earth South Sudan 2015 Agot Deng left South Sudan en route to Austria for Miss Earth 2015 which was scheduled on December 5, 2015, but she was deported back when she arrived in France to South Sudan due to expired visa which led to attend Miss Earth 2015 pageant. A beauty pageant is a competition that has traditionally focused on judging and ranking the physical attributes of the contestants. Pageants have now evolved to include inner beauty, with criteria covering judging of personality, intelligence, talent, character, and charitable involvement, through private interviews with judges and answers to public on-stage questions. The term beauty pageant refers originally to the Big Four international beauty pageants.

Miss Earth Indonesia is a discontinued beauty pageant from Indonesia that selected Indonesian representative in the Miss Earth pageant. The Miss Earth Indonesia competition was abolished in 2021 because of El John Pageant lost the franchise of Miss Earth and rebranded the pageant with Putri Bumi Indonesia From 2022, the licenseholder of Miss Earth pageant is PT. Mahakarya Duta Pesona Indonesia and make a new pageant named Putri Nusantara which Miss Earth Indonesia is selected as one of the winner from that pageant.
The South Sudan National Cup is an annual knockout association football competition in men's domestic South Sudanese football. Organized by the South Sudan Football Association, the cup began in 2012, not long after South Sudan gained independence. Wau Salaam FC is the most successful club in South Sudan National Cup history, holding three titles. In the most recent competition, nine teams competed in the cup. However, the competition has only been held three times, most recently in 2014.

The South Sudanese Civil War was a multi-sided civil war in South Sudan between forces of the government and opposition forces. In December 2013, President Kiir accused his former deputy Riek Machar and 10 others of attempting a coup d'état. Machar denied trying to start a coup and fled to lead the SPLM – in opposition (SPLM-IO). Fighting broke out between the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) and SPLM-IO, igniting the civil war. Ugandan troops were deployed to fight alongside the South Sudanese government. The United Nations has peacekeepers in the country as part of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
Reinas de Costa Rica is a national beauty pageant in Costa Rica that selects representatives to the Miss World and Miss International pageant. Siran Samuel is a South Sudanese beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned as Beauties of South Sudan 2014 and was dethroned by CEO Atong Demach and South Sudan's representative in Miss Earth 2015. Samuel was supposed to compete in Miss Earth 2014 but Beauties of South Sudan, the license owner of Miss Earth in South Sudan, decided to withdraw for unprecedented circumstances that were out of their control, and would resume their participation the following year (2015).
Atong Demach is a South Sudanese businesswoman, model and beauty pageant titleholder. She won the Miss World South Sudan 2011 title and was later crowned as Miss World Africa and Miss World Top 7 in Ordos, China. The South Sudanese queen is the first representative of South Sudan to Miss World and the first to win the title of Miss World Africa. She now works as the government of South Sudan's ambassador for culture and a public relations advisor to the government of Japan.
Agot Deng Jogaak is a South Sudanese beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned as Miss Earth South Sudan 2015. She is the first South Sudanese under the Miss South Sudan Foundation headed by the Miss Earth South Sudan 2009, Aheu Deng.
Miss World 2018, the 68th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 8 December 2018 at the Sanya City Arena in Sanya, China. Manushi Chhillar of India crowned her successor Vanessa Ponce of Mexico at the end of the event. She is the first Mexican woman to win Miss World.

Miss Grand South Sudan is a national beauty pageant title awarded to women selected to represent South Sudan at the Miss Grand International pageant. The title was first awarded in 2014 on the stage of Beauties of South Sudan (B.O.S.S.) which was a national pageant held by former Miss World South Sudan, Atong Demach. However, the first titleholder, Akan William, did not compete internationally due to her university study issues. The partnership between the B.O.S.S. and the Miss Grand International firm was terminated in 2018; since then, to date, no South Sudanese representatives have additionally been sent to compete.
