Mississippi Highway 389 (MS 389) is a state highway that runs from south to north in the U.S. State of Mississippi. MS 389 currently exists in two sections. The southern section begins at MS 182 in Starkville. The road travels north out of the city, and crosses U.S. Route 82 (US 82) and MS 15. North of Starkville, the route continues northwestwards and ends at the Oktibbeha–Clay county line south of Pheba. The northern section starts at MS 46 west of Montpelier, and it travels north to cross the Natchez Trace Parkway in Chickasaw County. MS 389 ends at MS 8 in Houston.
MS 389 was designated in two segments around 1957, one from US 82 in Starkville to MS 50 in Pheba, and another from MS 46 west of Montpelier to MS 8 south of Houston. The route was realigned to connect directly to Houston ten years later. The route was fully paved in asphalt by 1971. The two sections were connected together by 1992, when the route was between MS 46 and MS 50. The same portion of the route was returned to county maintenance by 2000, along with the portion from the Oktibbeha–Clay County line to MS 50, leaving MS 389 in two segments again.

MS 389 is split in two segments, with one located in northern Oktibbeha, [5] and the other in northwestern Clay and southern Chickasaw counties. [6] [7] The route is legally defined in Mississippi Code § 65-3-3, [8] and it is maintained by the Mississippi Department of Transportation as part of the Mississippi State Highway System. [1]
MS 389 starts at its intersection with MS 182, also known as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, and Jackson Street near downtown Starkville. [9] The route, continuing as Jackson Street, travels north into the suburbs around the city, and intersects the entrance to Montcrief Park. MS 389 then intersects Hospital Road, which leads to several medical facilities, including the Oktibbeha County Hospital. The road turns northwest at Garrard Road, traveling into the outskirts of Starkville. [2] The road then crosses US 82 and MS 25 at a diamond interchange, and exits the city limits of Starkville. [9] Traveling through rural areas of Oktibbeha County, the route crosses Trim Cane Creek near Sun Creek Road, which travels to the unincorporated area of Plairs. MS 389 turns westward at Bells and continues in that direction until it reaches County Lake Road. At Maben Bell Schoolhouse Road, it resumes traveling north. The road crosses the Clay–Oktibbeha county line at Six Mile Creek, [5] and state maintenance ends north of the bridge. [10] The road continues as Pheba–Beasley Road, which travels through Pheba and ends at MS 46 in Beasley. [2]
The northern segment starts at a T-intersection with MS 46 west of Montpelier in Clay County, and it travels north-northwestwards from that point. The road intersects Hill Circle Road before entering Chickasaw County. [6] Once inside the county, the route meets County Road 419 (CR 419) at Sparta. MS 389 turns north at CR 83, and crosses Cane Creek and its tributary, Chewawah Creek. [7] Continuing across farmland, [3] the road turns northwest near CR 85, and crosses over the Natchez Trace Parkway at a quadrant roadway intersection. MS 389 turns north at CR 80, and it travels through the community of Sonora near CR 93. The route passes by CR 108, which connects to MS 15. [7] MS 389 enters the city limits of Houston near CR 106. [11] Inside the city, the road is known as West Point Road, and it travels towards the center of the town. At its five-way intersection with McWhorter Street, South Jackson Street, and Woodland Circle, the route continues northward along South Jackson Street. [3] MS 389 travels northwards and ends at MS 8 at the center of Houston. [7] The road continues as North Jackson Street, which travels to MS 15 north of Houston. [11]
In May 1955, a project was announced to construct culverts and a temporary 3.458-mile (5.565 km) gravel road from Houston to Montpelier, with the road given the designation of MS 389. [12] A surfacing project began in November 1956 for the same section. [13] Around 1957, the MS 389 designation appeared along two roads in eastern Mississippi; one from US 82 and MS 25 in Starkville to MS 10 in Pheba, and another from MS 46 near Montpelier to MS 15 south of Houston. The sections near Pheba and in Chickasaw County were paved in asphalt, and the remaining sections were laid with gravel. [14] [15] MS 10 was renumbered to MS 50 by 1960, [16] [17] and projects to construct three bridges and for grading, drainage, and gravel surfacing along 3.4-mile (5.5 km) section of MS 389 in Oktibbeha County began. [18] A section of Natchez Trace Parkway was constructed through MS 389 by 1962. [17] [19] The southern segment from Starkville to Pheba was paved by 1965, [20] [21] after the $435,607 (equivalent to $3,590,953in 2019) project was announced in the previous year. [22]
Two years later, the road was rerouted into Houston, and a small section near Montpelier was paved. [21] [23] The entire route was paved in asphalt by 1971. [24] [25] The two segments were connected by 1992 with a new route between MS 50 and MS 46. [26] [27] In May 2000, the section from the Clay–Oktibbeha county line to Montpelier was removed from the state highway system, and it was turned over to the Board of Supervisors of Clay County. [28] By 2004, a bypass around Starkville was completed, [29] and US 82 and MS 25 were rerouted onto the new highway. A new interchange was built at MS 389 as a result, and the southern terminus of the southern segment was changed to MS 182. [30] [31]

Mississippi Highway 25 runs from I-55 in Jackson, Mississippi to the Tennessee state line north of Iuka. The largely controlled-access part from Jackson to Starkville connects the state capital with the main campus of Mississippi State University.
Mississippi Highway 182 designates the old two-lane highway for U.S. Route 82 (US 82) where the current US 82 occupies a new right-of-way. Some of the towns with a segment of MS 182 are Winona, Kilmichael, Eupora, Mayhew, Starkville, and Columbus.
Mississippi Highway 366 (MS 366) is a highway in Prentiss County, Mississippi. It starts at MS 370 at the Lee–Prentiss county line in the west. The route intersects many county routes as it travels eastward to MS 371, its eastern terminus. The route was designated in 1957, and became fully paved by 1971.
Mississippi Highway 364 is a state highway in northeastern Mississippi, separated in two segments. The route starts at MS 30 southeast of Booneville and travels northeastward. The road travels through Altitude and ends at MS 365 in Cairo. The other segment begins in Holcut and travels eastward to its terminus at MS 25 at Midway. The route was designated in 1950, from a former segment of MS 30 between MS 365 and MS 25. The route was extended southwestwards to MS 30 around 1960, and the highway was completely paved by 1984. The section of MS 364 near the Tennessee–Tombigbee Waterway were removed by the same year, and another section from MS 365 to the waterway was removed ten years later.
Mississippi Highway 2 is a designation for two highways in northern Mississippi. The westernmost segment starts at MS 5 in Hickory Flat, and ends at MS 15 and MS 368 in Blue Mountain. The eastern segment starts at MS 4 near Ripley and it travels northeastwards towards Corinth. The route becomes concurrent with U.S. Route 72 and US 45 in Corinth, and ends at the Tennessee state line. The road continues as Tennessee State Route 22. The route was designated around 1932, from the state line near Mount Pleasant to the state line near Corinth. The section west of Corinth became a part of US 72 by 1935, and the route was extended southwestwards to Hickory Flat by 1958.
Mississippi Highway 555 is a state highway in southwestern Mississippi. The route has two sections, both in Adams County. The first section starts at Ogden Road and travels northwestward to its terminus at US 61. The second section starts at the concurrency of MS 930 and MS 932 and the concurrency of US 61 and US 84 in Natchez. MS 555 travels northward through Pine Ridge and ends at Anna's Bottom Road near the Anna site. The route travels by a few historical locations, including the Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church.
Mississippi Highway 554 is a short highway near Natchez, Mississippi. The route starts at MS 555, and travels eastward. The road intersects the entrance to Natchez–Adams County Airport before ending at U.S. Route 61. The route was designated in 1957, and it included a separate route in southern Adams County. MS 554 was temporarily removed from the highway system in 1967, but was added back in 1973.
Mississippi Highway 23 is a state highway in Mississippi. The route starts at MS 25 in the town of Smithville. It travels northeastward through the forests of eastern Itawamba County. The highway intersects Interstate 22 (I-22) and U.S. Route 78 in Tremont. MS 23 ends at the Mississippi–Alabama state line, just west of Red Bay.
U.S. Route 45 Alternate is a 62.9-mile-long (101.2 km) alternate route of US 45 in northeastern Mississippi, running from Brooksville, through West Point, to Shannon, which lies just south of Tupelo. Excluding the route through West Point, the entire length of US 45 Alternate is a four-lane divided expressway, with interchanges at most major junctions.
Mississippi Highway 306 is a state highway in northern Mississippi. The route starts at U.S. Route 51 in Coldwater, and it travels eastward to an interchange at Interstate 55 (I-55) on the northern edge of the town. The road continues eastward across northern Tate County and ends at MS 305 near Independence. MS 306 was designated in 1952, and it was constructed in 1953 from US 51 to MS 305. The route was paved in asphalt by 1956, and an interchange was built at I-55 by 1967.
Mississippi Highway 607 is a state highway in the Mississippi Gulf Coast region. The route starts at U.S. Route 90, and it travels westward to Interstate 10 (I-10). The route has a gap as the road travels through the Stennis Space Center, but resumes north of the center to end at I-59 and US 11 south of Picayune. The road was part of US 11 and US 90, before MS 43 was designated in 1948. MS 607 was created in 1967, after MS 43 was rerouted, and Stennis Space Center was built.
Mississippi Highway 612 is a highway in southeastern Mississippi. The route starts at MS 613, southwest of Lucedale. It travels southeastward through George County, crossing over Escatawpa River. The route ends at the Alabama state line, and County Road 7 continues into Mobile County. MS 612 was designated in 1966, and no significant changes have been made to the route since.
Mississippi Highway 332 is a highway in central Mississippi. Its western terminus is at U.S. Route 51 in Grenada. The route travels northeastward through farmland to Grenada Municipal Airport. The road continues to its eastern terminus at Toe Road, southwest of the Grenada Lake. The designation was created in 1958 for a former segment of MS 7, which was rerouted north of the lake.
Mississippi Highway 366 is a short highway in northeastern Mississippi. The road starts at MS 25 in Belmont, and travels southeastward through Golden to the Alabama state border. The route was created in 1958, and hasn't changed significantly since.
Mississippi Highway 500 is a short state highway in central Mississippi. The route starts at MS 13 in the town of Lena, and it travels eastward across southern Leake County. The road turns northeastward after halfway to its eastern terminus, and it ends at MS 487 near Tuscola. MS 500 was designated in 1960 as a gravel road, and it was completely paved with asphalt eight years later.
Mississippi Highway 367 is a short state highway located in northeastern Mississippi. The route starts at MS 356 near Jacinto and travels northeastward. MS 367 intersects several county roads before ending at the Alcorn–Tishomingo county line. The route was designated around 1965, from a former routing of MS 356. The highway was paved by 1974, and the section in Tishomingo County was decommissioned by 1998.
Mississippi Highway 47 (MS 47) is a 23.048-mile-long (37.092 km) state highway located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The route starts at MS 50 west of West Point in Clay County. The road then travels northwest through small communities in Clay and Chickasaw counties, and it intersects MS 8 in Trebloc, Chickasaw County. MS 47 ends at Aberdeen Road near Buena Vista, and the road continues as MS 385. The route was designated around 1934, from MS 10 near West Point to MS 8 in Buena Vista, and MS 8 was rerouted south through Trebloc by 1944. MS 47 was fully paved by 1958.
Mississippi Highway 46 is a state highway located in the U.S. State of Mississippi. The western terminus of the route is at the western terminus of MS 782 in Mantee in Webster County and the eastern terminus is at MS 50 west of West Point in Clay County. Along the way, MS 46 intersects MS 15 in Mantee and then the Natchez Trace Parkway east of Mantee.
Mississippi Highway 407 (MS 407) is a two-lane wide state highway in central Mississippi consisting of two separate segments. The first segment connects the towns of McCool and Weir with MS 12 and is signed a north-south route. The second segment runs from French Camp at MS 413 west to Winona at U.S. Route 51 (US 51). Most of the road is state maintained, however, a 5.5-mile-long (8.9 km) segment between McCool and Weir are maintained as county roads.
Mississippi Highway 492 (MS 492) is a state highway in central Mississippi that consists of two separate segments. The western segment runs in the vicinity of Walnut Grove and Golden Memorial State Park. The eastern segment runs much longer and travels from Sebastopol to House, Neshoba County.
