Mosby Court is a housing project and neighborhood in Richmond, Virginia. The neighborhood is named Mosby, while the housing project is named Mosby Court.
Mosby Court is located in the East End quadrant of Richmond, Virginia. Adjacent to the Richmond City Jail, Mosby Court is primarily served by Coalter Street, which accesses the community North 18th Street (U.S. Route 360). Directly south of the neighborhood is Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School. [1]
Mosby Court was first built between 1962 and 1970, and contains 458 units. [1] The neighborhood is named after Benjamin Mosby, a 19th-century land developer. [2]
As of 2022, Mosby Court has approximately 10,000 residents. In 2022, the city of Richmond redeveloped the housing projects, where they demolished the six largest housing units, replacing them with mixed-income units. [3] [4] That same year, the name of the neighborhood was proposed to be changed, due to its ties to the Confederate States of America. The proposal was unanimously voted against by residents of Mosby Court. [5]
In the afternoon of May 17, 2023, there was a shooting in Mosby Court, which resulted in the injury of a child. [6] Another shooting occurred in the early morning of September 19, resulting in the death of one man. [7]
In May 2023, a man and woman both assaulted a postal worker after a dog got out of an apartment. One punched the mailman to the ground and stomped on him. They pled guilty to assault charges on January 4, 2024. [8] [9]

With minor exceptions near Bon Air, VA, the Chippenham Parkway forms the border between Chesterfield County and the City of Richmond portions of Southside, with some news agencies using the term "South Richmond" to refer to the locations in Southside located in the city proper.

Jackson Ward, previously known as Central Wards, is a historically African-American district in Richmond, Virginia, with a long tradition of African-American businesses. It is located less than a mile from the Virginia State Capitol, sitting to the west of Court End and north of Broad Street. It was listed as a National Historic Landmark District in 1978. "Jackson Ward" was originally the name of the area's political district within the city, or ward, from 1871 to 1905, yet has remained in use long after losing its original meaning.

Union Hill is a historic district of Richmond, Virginia. According to the Richmond Times Dispatch, the neighborhood "generally is bordered on the south by East Marshall Street and Jefferson Avenue, on the west by Mosby Street, on the north by O and Carrington streets, and angled on the east by North 25th Street." Robert Eric Wone was an American lawyer who was murdered in the Washington, D.C., home of a college friend, Joseph Price, in August 2006. Wone was living in suburban Oakton, Virginia, but had been working as general counsel at Radio Free Asia in downtown Washington. He had stayed the night at the home of friends located about one mile from his office. According to police affidavits, Wone was believed to have been "restrained, incapacitated, and sexually assaulted" before his death. The residents of the home – Price, Victor Zaborsky and Dylan Ward – contended that the murder was committed by an intruder unknown to them; the trial judge found this unbelievable. Wone's official cause of death was attributed to knife wounds.

Hannah Elizabeth Graham was an 18-year-old second-year British-born American student at the University of Virginia who went missing on September 13, 2014. She was last seen early in the morning that day, at the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville, Virginia. Five weeks later, her remains were discovered on an abandoned property in nearby Albemarle County. Jesse Matthew pleaded guilty to murdering Graham and was sentenced to life imprisonment. He was also found guilty and given three additional life sentences for other, previous crimes.

Ee Lee was an American woman who was raped and murdered by two black teenagers in a racially-motivated daylight attack in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The two perpetrators, Kamare Lewis and Kevin Spencer, pleaded guilty to first-degree reckless homicide and second-degree sexual assault in 2023. Later that year, Lewis was sentenced to 26 years in prison, while Spencer was sentenced to 32 years in prison.
