History

The NEFL was formed in 1990 when the Northern District Football League and the Echuca Football League merged. [1] Prospects for the league was positive as it started with twelve clubs, however the improved standard of football being played put pressure on the smaller clubs to seek amalgamation with neighbouring clubs. The league would only last seven seasons until 1996 with the league merging with the Mid Murray Football League to form the Central Murray Football Netball League.
