Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (KUSUM)Yojana was launched in March 2019 by the Government of India to increase the income of farmers and provide sources of irrigation and de-dieselization the agricultural sector. [1] [2] To receive the benefit of this scheme farmers need to install solar irrigation pumps for cultivation. Under this scheme, the government of India will provide 60% subsidy on the total cost of solar irrigation installed pumps to the farmer. [3] [4]

The PM-KUSUM scheme of the Government of India is one of the largest initiatives in the world to provide clean energy to more than 3.5 million farmers. It solarizes agricultural pumps and provides up 10 GW distributed solar projects to the farmers. The scheme plans to set up 30.8 GW of solar capacity by 31 December 2022, through the financial assistance of INR 340.35 billion (US$4.65 billion). [5]

All components of the KUSUM Scheme combined would support the installation of the additional solar capacity of 30.80 GW.[ citation needed ]
Under Kusum Yojana, a group of farmers, panchayats, and cooperatives can apply to install solar pumps. The total cost included in this scheme is divided into three categories in which the government will help the farmers. [5] The government will provide a 60% subsidy to the farmers, and 30% of the cost will be given by the government in the form of a loan. Farmers will only have to pay 10% of the total cost of the project. Farmers can sell electricity generated from solar panels. The money earned by selling electricity can be used to start a new businesses. [8] [9] [10]
Under the PM Kusum Yojana, farmers are provided with the following benefits:
1. Subsidy: Farmers receive a subsidy ranging from 30% to 90% for installing solar pumps.
2. Reduced Dependency on Diesel: The installation of solar pumps reduces reliance on diesel and other traditional energy sources.
3. Electricity Savings: Solar-powered pumps decrease electricity consumption, which helps lower the farmers' expenses.
4. Source of Additional Income: Farmers can earn extra income by selling surplus solar energy back to the grid.
5. Green Energy: Through this scheme, farmers contribute to environmental protection by utilizing green energy.
6. Cost Reduction: Lower electricity costs improve the farmers' economic conditions, increasing their overall income.
Pumped-storage hydroelectricity (PSH), or pumped hydroelectric energy storage (PHES), is a type of hydroelectric energy storage used by electric power systems for load balancing. A PHS system stores energy in the form of gravitational potential energy of water, pumped from a lower elevation reservoir to a higher elevation. Low-cost surplus off-peak electric power is typically used to run the pumps. During periods of high electrical demand, the stored water is released through turbines to produce electric power.

The energy policy of India is to increase the locally produced energy in India and reduce energy poverty, with more focus on developing alternative sources of energy, particularly nuclear, solar and wind energy. Net energy import dependency was 40.9% in 2021-22. The primary energy consumption in India grew by 13.3% in FY2022-23 and is the third biggest with 6% global share after China and USA. The total primary energy consumption from coal, crude oil, natural gas, nuclear energy, hydroelectricity and renewable power is 809.2 Mtoe in the calendar year 2018. In 2018, India's net imports are nearly 205.3 million tons of crude oil and its products, 26.3 Mtoe of LNG and 141.7 Mtoe coal totaling to 373.3 Mtoe of primary energy which is equal to 46.13% of total primary energy consumption. India is largely dependent on fossil fuel imports to meet its energy demands – by 2030, India's dependence on energy imports is expected to exceed 53% of the country's total energy consumption.

In FY2023-24, India is planning to issue 50 GW tenders for wind, solar and hybrid projects. India has committed for a goal of 500 GW renewable energy capacity by 2030.
India is 5th globally for installed hydroelectric power capacity. As of 31 March 2020, India's installed utility-scale hydroelectric capacity was 46,000 MW, or 12.3% of its total utility power generation capacity. Additional smaller hydroelectric power units with a total capacity of 4,683 MW have been installed. India's hydroelectric power potential is estimated at 148,700 MW at 60% load factor. In the fiscal year 2019–20, the total hydroelectric power generated in India was 156 TWh with an average capacity factor of 38.71%.
Agriculture in India is highly susceptible to risks like droughts and floods. It is necessary to protect the farmers from natural calamities and ensure their credit eligibility for the next season. For this purpose, the Government of India introduced many agricultural social insurances throughout the country, the most important one of them being Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.
Solar power in Denmark amounts to 3,696 MW of grid-connected PV capacity at the end of June 2024, and contributes to a government target to use 100% renewable electricity by 2030 and 100% renewable energy by 2050. Solar power produced 9.3% of Danish electricity generation in 2023, the highest share in the Nordic countries.
Jyotigram Yojana is an initiative of the Government of Gujarat, India, to ensure that a 24-hour, three-phase quality power supply is available to rural areas of the state and supply power to farmers residing in scattered farmhouses through feeder lines with specially designed transformers. The scheme was announced in 2006 by the President of India, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. In 2011 it was announced by the Government of India that it would accept Gujarat's Jyotigram project as a flagship scheme for its Twelfth five-year plan.

Türkiye has ranked 5th in Europe and 12th in the world in terms of installed capacity in renewable energy. The share of renewables in Türkiye’s installed power reached to 54% at the end of 2022.
Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi is an initiative by the government of India that give farmers up to ₹6,000 (US$72) per year as minimum income support. The initiative was announced by Piyush Goyal during the 2019 Interim Union Budget of India on 1 February 2019. The scheme has cost ₹75,000 crore per annum and came into effect December 2018.
