Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (English: Young Scientist Incentive Plan) (KVPY) used to be a scholarship programme funded by the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India, aimed at encouraging students to take up research careers in the areas of basic sciences. It offered scholarships and contingency grants up to the pre-PhD level to selected students. Begun in 1999, it was administered by the Indian Institute of Science. The students who qualified in the KVPY Exam were eligible for a fellowship as well as admissions into institutes like the IISc and the IISER based on additional criteria. This exam had 3 Streams: SA (Class 11), SX (Class 12), and SB (First year BSc). Streams SP Basic Sciences (Class 11, 12 and First-year BSc, BTech) and SP Medicine (First-year MBBS) were discontinued since 2012–13. [2] On 18 July 2022, the KVPY website announced the decision of DST to subsume KVPY with INSPIRE. KVPY Aptitude test will not be conducted from the year 2022 onwards. [3] Ongoing KVPY fellows will continue to receive fellowship as per norms from DST.

Rewards

1. The students who qualify KVPY Exam are eligible for the fellowship. The students receive a fellowship from 1st year onwards of their graduation (science field).

2. The KVPY fellows receive ₹5,000 monthly fellowship from 1st to 3rd year of B.Sc/ B.Stat/ B.S./ B.Maths/ Integrated M.S./M.Sc and an annual contingency grant of ₹20,000. After three years the fellowship is enhanced to ₹7,000 per month during M.Sc/4th and 5th year of Integrated M.S./M.Sc and an annual contingency grant of ₹28,000. [4]

3. KVPY Fellows are also eligible to get the DST Inspire Scholarship [5] granted by Department of Science & Technology (DST) Government of India worth ₹80,000 annually.

BioInformatics National Certification (BINC) is an initiative of Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government Of India in coordination with Bioinformatics Center, University of Pune, then from 2011, it was conducted by Jawaharlal Nehru University. However, from 2014 and now it is conducted by Pondicherry University. The objective of the examination is to recognize trained manpower in the area of Bioinformatics. Currently, various Indian universities, Government and private institutions are involved in imparting courses in Bioinformatics in India. However, there exists a large variation in the course contents, training period and method of training. Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, has instituted BINC examination with an objective to evaluate the Bioinformatics knowledge & skillset of the students. This professional certification would facilitate industries and potential employers in recruiting Bioinformatics professionals. The BINC examination is conducted in the first quarter of every year. Those meeting the prescribed standards in BINC are issued a certificate of proficiency in Bioinformatics. BINC has decided to award Research fellowships to BINC qualified Indian nationals to pursue Ph.D. in Indian Institutes/Universities. Note that the candidate must possess a postgraduate degree & meet the criteria of the institutes/universities in order to avail research fellowship.

The Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) is a joint entrance exam for post-graduate studies in the field of technological design. The exams are held annually at all Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc). The examination is hosted by the Industrial Design Centre, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay on behalf of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The CEED is a descriptive test covering a student's logical, creative, observation and drawing skills, tested in particular for admission to various design courses in the fields of product design, industrial design, visual communication, animation graphics, vehicle design and mobility.

Mukhyamantri Vigyan Pratibha Pariksha is an Indian scholarship exam conducted each January by the Science Branch of the Directorate of Education in Delhi. It is open to students of recognized schools in Delhi. 1000 students per year are awarded the scholarship.

After completing a postgraduate degree, one of the options is to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) program. These Ph.D programs cost money and time. To help a scholar there are many Research Fellowship Schemes in India funded by either a government agency or a private one. Such a scholar pursuing a Ph.D receives a monthly stipend and in some cases an annual contingency grant for 2 to 5 years.

The IISER Aptitude Test is an annual academic examination held in India. It is organized by the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research under a Joint Admissions Committee. It is one of the ways to get admission into the BS-MS dual degree programs and BS degree programs of IISER apart from JEE-Advanced and KVPY exam.
