Pokok Assam is a small town in Taiping, Perak, Malaysia. It is the second biggest satellite town in Taiping, after Kamunting, with its famous road side fried chicken [ citation needed ] and Mee Rebus. [1] It has its own post office, basketball court, police station and wet market.

It has a very active morning and night market that operates daily. The action around this small community centres on the market area. In the morning Pokok Assam is famous for its roast pork for which many town people from Taiping come to purchase. It is usually sold out by 9 am.[ citation needed ]

Jalan Tupai is the main road leading from Taiping town to Pokok Assam. There is an abattoir and police station on the road leading to this town. There is also good "lai fun" (thick rice noodles) and hokkien mee (prawn mee) at the market. Pokok Assam is a "White Village", created during the Malaya Emergency in the 1950s.

Taiping Aerodrome is an aerodrome in Taiping, Larut, Matang and Selama, Perak, Malaysia. It is located at Jalan Muzaffar Shah formerly Creagh Road, Assam Kumbang and also called Tekah Airstrip. The airport was built in early 1929, this wooden structure aerodrome was the first airfield in the state of Perak and also in Peninsular Malaysia.

Roughly shaped like a bird with wings stretching along the length of the Brahmaputra river, Assam is the main and oldest state in the North-East Region of India and serves as the gateway to the rest of the Seven Sister States. The land of red river and blue hills, Assam comprises three main geographical areas: the Brahmaputra Valley which constitutes the expansive wingspan, the Barak Valley extending like a tail, and the intervening Karbi Plateau and North Cachar Hills. Assam shares its border with Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and West Bengal; and there are National Highways leading to their capital cities. It also shares international borders with Bhutan and Bangladesh and is very close to Myanmar. In ancient times Assam was known as Pragjyotisha or Pragjyotishpura, and Kamarupa.
