The Bagan Datuk District (Malay : Daerah Bagan Datuk) is the most southwest district in Perak, Malaysia. It covers an area of 951 square kilometres, and had a population about of 70,300. The district is bordered by Perak River which separates Manjung and Central Perak in the north, Bernam River which separates Sabak Bernam in the state of Selangor in the south, Muallim and Hilir Perak in the northeast. The capital of this district is Bagan Datuk town. Other localities that are situated in the district include Hutan Melintang, Rungkup and a planned township known as the “Bagan Datuk Water City (BDWC)”. [6] Bagan Datuk is well known for the largest source of coconuts in Perak. [7]

History

Bagan Datuk was founded initially at a different site at Batu 11/2 at Kampung Pasang Api. The current area where Bagan Datuk lies was previously referred to as Sungai Keling. [7]

In January 2016, Bagan Datoh was declared an autonomous sub-district (daerah kecil) of Perak after the approval from Sultan of Perak, Menteri Besar of Perak and the state secretary. [8] On 15 June 2016, Bagan Datoh was upgraded into a full district, detaching it from Hilir Perak (Teluk Intan). Teluk Intan however retains responsibility for the municipal works in the new district. [9] In August 2016, Sembilan Island was incorporated to Bagan Datoh District from Manjung District. [10]

On 29 December 2016, it was announced that Bagan Datoh will be renamed to Bagan Datuk starting 9 January 2017. [11]

One of the renowned public education institutions in the district is Sekolah Kebangsaan Khir Johari, Sungai Sumun.

The West Coast Expressway (E32), abbreviated WCE, is an interstate controlled-access highway running along the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The 233-kilometre (145-mile) expressway is currently under construction, with several sections open for public use. Once completed, the expressway will run between Changkat Jering, Perak and Banting, Selangor, following federal routes 5 and 60 for most of its route. The expressway will operate in three sections, with sections of federal route 5 completing the missing connections; these sections will be upgraded to limited-access roads. The expressway is expected to be fully completed by the end of 2025, except for a 10 km stretch from Section 7B which is expected to be completed by June 2026.

Sekolah Menengah Sains Bagan Datoh is one of a Fully Residential School also known as Sekolah Berasrama Penuh (SBP) and it is one of the Sekolah Menengah Sains(SMS) group of school funded by the Government Of Malaysia. The school was named after one of the district in Perak called Bagan Datuk as it is where the school was located which is about 58 km from the city of Teluk Intan. The school started operating on 12 May 2009 (Tuesday).

Teluk Intan Hospital is a hospital in Teluk Intan, Hilir Perak District, Perak, Malaysia. It was built to serve the residents around the Hilir Perak, which covers an area of about 667 square miles (1,730 km2) and it has 548 beds.
