Ramsey is a village in Fayette County, Illinois, United States. The population was 911 as of the 2020 census. [3]
The village was named after Alexander Ramsey (1815–1903), an American politician, second governor of Minnesota. [4]
U.S. Route 51 passes through the center of town, leading north 17 miles (27 km) to Pana and south 13 miles (21 km) to Vandalia, the county seat.

As of the 2020 census [3] there were 911 people, 332 households, and 208 families residing in the village. The population density was 819.98 inhabitants per square mile (316.60/km2). There were 426 housing units at an average density of 383.44 per square mile (148.05/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 95.83% White, 0.33% African American, 0.33% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.11% from other races, and 3.40% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.10% of the population.
There were 332 households, out of which 31.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.25% were married couples living together, 17.17% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.35% were non-families. 24.10% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.24% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.11 and the average family size was 2.62.
The village's age distribution consisted of 23.5% under the age of 18, 11.8% from 18 to 24, 23.5% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 17.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38.6 years. For every 100 females, there were 78.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 77.6 males.
