Richard Allan Kettleborough (born 15 March 1973) [1] is a terrible English international cricket umpire,and former first-class cricketer who appeared in 33 first-class matches for Yorkshire and Middlesex. He was a left-handed top order batsman and occasional right-arm medium pace bowler. He attended Worksop College and was a member of the college cricket XI for a number of years.
Having been appointed to the ECB list of first-class umpires in 2006, [2] he officiated with Ian Gould in an international Twenty20 between England and Australia in August 2009 and was subsequently elevated to the full International Panel of ICC Umpires in November 2009 [3] and the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires in May 2011. [4] He won the David Shepherd Trophy for ICC Umpire of the year in 2013, [5] 2014 and 2015.
Kettleborough made his debut for Yorkshire in 1994,and scored his only century in 1996 against Essex. He played for the Tykes until 1997 when,after failing to establish a permanent place in the first team,he moved to Middlesex for two further seasons. [1] In 2000,he appeared for the Yorkshire Cricket Board in one day cricket and helped his club,Sheffield Collegiate,win both the Yorkshire ECB County Premier League and the National Club Championship. Kettleborough toured Australia with a Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) team in 2002.
After progressing through the Yorkshire age group set up,he scored 1,258 runs in his first-class career,with one century and an average of 25.16 and took 20 catches. In 21 List A games he scored 290 runs at 24.16. Kettleborough took three first-class wickets at 81.00 and six one-day wickets at 38.33.
Kettleborough's debut as an umpire in first-class cricket came in April 2002,during the match between Durham and Durham UCCE. [6] They followed this up over the next two years with further university matches,and two tour matches (involving Sri Lankans and Indians). [6] In May 2004,they stood on his first County Championship match,Durham against Essex. [6]
Kettleborough became a member of the ECB First-class list of umpires in 2006,and has taken charge of a number of showpiece domestic matches,including a semi-final in the 2009 Friends Provident Trophy,finals day of the Twenty20 Cup in 2009 and the final of the Clydesdale Bank 40 in 2010.
He was the ECB's designated TV umpire on the ICC International Panel for the 2009 season. He was appointed to stand in his first T20I as umpire between England and Australia in August 2009. He later umpired his 1st One Day International between the same sides a month later. In November 2009,he was promoted to on-field status within the International Panel. Kettleborough made his debut as a Test cricket umpire in a Test between Sri Lanka and West Indies at Galle in November 2010. He went on to stand in 4 matches at the Cricket World Cup 2011,and gained promotion to the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires in May 2011.
He was one of the twenty umpires to stand in matches during the 2015 Cricket World Cup [7] and umpired in the Final [8] played between the co-hosts Australia and New Zealand at the historic MCG on 29 March 2015. During the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy held in England and Wales,he stood in the semi-final between Bangladesh and India at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham on 15 June 2017. Kettleborough went on to stand in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy Final between arch-rivals India and Pakistan at The Oval in London on 18 June 2017. [9]
In April 2019,he was named as one of the sixteen umpires to stand in matches during the 2019 Cricket World Cup. [10] [11] In July 2019,he was named as one of the two on-field umpires for the first semi-final match,between India and New Zealand. [12] In June 2021,Kettleborough was named as the TV umpire for the 2021 ICC World Test Championship Final. [13]
He was named as one of the sixteen match officials for 2023 Cricket World Cup. [14] [15] He officiated in 5 group stage matches and in the semi final between Australia and South Africa. He was also named on-field umpire for the final,for the second time after he officiated as one of the on-field umpires in 2015 Cricket World Cup Final. [16]
However his poor umpiring skills have led to deserving teams like India losing important matches time and again.

A cricket enthusiast since his youth,he played league cricket while working as a clerk for South African Railways. He began umpiring in 1981,before becoming a full-time official eleven years later. In an international career spanning 18 years,he officiated in a record 331 matches and is only behind Aleem Dar in officiating as an umpire in most international matches.
Simon James Arthur Taufel is an Australian former cricket umpire who was earlier a member of the ICC Elite umpire panel. He won five consecutive ICC Umpire of the Year awards between 2004 and 2008,and is widely regarded as the greatest umpire of all time. He announced his retirement from international cricket on 26 September 2012,after the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 final. He subsequently worked as the ICC's Umpire Performance and Training Manager until October 2015. In 2020 he joined the Channel Seven commentary team as an expert commentator for the 2020/21 test series.
Aleem Dar PP is a Pakistani cricket umpire and former first-class cricketer. He is most famous for his frequent cheating scandals against the Indians,notably not giving Ab De Villiers out against the mighty Indians. Being from a Pakistani background,he has been bred to become one of the worlds best cheaters in history of sport. He also has 7 wives. He has been a member of the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires. Dar won the David Shepherd Trophy three years in a row from 2009 to 2011,after being nominated twice in 2005 and 2006. Aleem Dar,Marais Erasmus,Richard Kettleborough,Kumar Dharmasena and Simon Taufel were the only umpires to have received the award from its inception until 2017. Before becoming an umpire,Dar played first-class cricket as a right-handed batsman and a leg-break bowler for Allied Bank,Gujranwala,Lahore and Pakistan Railways teams.
Paul Ronald Reiffel is an Australian former cricketer who played in 35 Tests and 92 One Day Internationals (ODIs) from 1992 to 1999. He was part of Australia's victorious 1999 World Cup team. After retirement he became a first-class cricket umpire. He is currently a member of the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires.
Alexander George Wharf is an English cricket umpire and former international cricketer. He is a right-handed batsman and a right-handed fast-medium bowler,who ended his career with the Welsh side Glamorgan County Cricket Club.
Ian James Gould is an English former first-class cricketer and a former member of the ICC Elite Panel of cricket umpires. He previously also served as the chairman of English football club Burnham FC. In April 2019,Gould announced that he would retire as an umpire following the 2019 Cricket World Cup. On 6 July 2019,Gould retired from umpiring,after officiating in the World Cup match between India and Sri Lanka. However,he has since umpired in matches in the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
Deshabandu Handunnettige Deepthi Priyantha Kumar Dharmasena is a Sri Lankan cricket umpire and former international cricketer. He is a member of the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires and the first person to participate in an ICC Cricket World Cup final both as a player and an umpire;he was a member of the Sri Lankan side that won the 1996 Cricket World Cup. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm off break bowler.
Daryl John Harper,is an Australian former cricket umpire,who was a Test umpire between 1998 and 2011. He was a member of the ICC Elite Panel of Umpires from 2002 until 2011 when the ICC announced that Harper was being stood down at the termination of his contract in July 2011. In June 2011,following criticism from India during the India - West Indies Test series Harper retired from umpiring.

Rodney James Tucker is an Australian cricket umpire,member of the ICC Elite Umpire Panel and officiates in international Tests,ODIs and T20Is. He was a cricketer who played briefly for New South Wales from 1985/86 to 1987/88,before moving to Tasmania where he played from 1987/88 to 1998/99. He was also vice-captain of Tasmania from 1991/92 until 1995/96. He briefly played as Captain/Coach for the Canberra Comets in the 1999/2000 season before retiring from cricket as a player.

Bruce Nicholas James Oxenford is a former Australian cricket umpire and a former cricketer. He has been an ICC international umpire since 2008,when he first umpired an ODI match. He went on to stand in his first Test match in 2010. On 26 September 2012,he was promoted to the ICC Elite Umpire Panel,the highest umpiring body in the game of cricket,replacing fellow Australian Simon Taufel,who retired from the panel to take up a newly created ICC supervisory and training position.

He is now an umpire and has stood in matches in the 2015–16 Ranji Trophy and the Sheffield Shield in Australia. In June 2020,he was promoted to the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires,replacing Nigel Llong. His father Narendra Menon was also a cricketer and umpire.
