The parish was originally a township within Warrington parish before becoming a separate parish in 1866. It was part of the Warrington Poor Law Union and, from 1894, Warrington Rural District, and the District of Warrington from 1974.
Hollins Green, south of Glazebrook, is on the A57 Warrington–Manchester road. Rixton lies a short distance south-west of Hollins Green.[2]
The Manchester Ship Canal follows a stretch of the River Mersey which runs close to Hollins Green and forms the south-eastern parish boundary. The boundary in the north-east follows the Glaze Brook, which joins the Mersey just upstream of Hollins Green.[3]
Etymology
The name "Rixton" derives from the personal name "Ric" and tun, which is Old English for a homestead or settlement. "Glazebrook" derives from Brittonicglas, which can mean either a river, or else "blue" or "green or blue", and brook, from Old English "brōc", meaning a small stream.[4]

Between Liverpool and Glossop, the road has largely been superseded by the M62, M602 and M67 motorways. Within Manchester a short stretch becomes the Mancunian Way, designated A57(M).

It was created in 1974 as a district of the non-metropolitan county of Cheshire, and became a unitary authority area on 1 April 1998 under Halton Borough Council. The parish is the most northeasterly point of Cheshire West and Chester, and as such borders both Warrington and Cheshire East. As well as Antrobus village centre itself, the parish includes other large hamlets at Frandley, about 1 mi (1.6 km) south-west from the main village, and Crowley, about 2 mi (3.2 km) to the north-east.
Basford is a hamlet and former civil parish, now in the parish of Weston and Crewe Green, in the unitary authority area of Cheshire East and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England, lying immediately south of Crewe. Nearby villages include Shavington, Weston, Hough and Chorlton. The population was 256 in 2011. Basford was first recorded in the Domesday survey and had a moated manor. It contains seven buildings that are recorded in the National Heritage List for England as designated listed buildings, all of which are listed at Grade II. This grade is the lowest of the three gradings given to listed buildings, applied to "buildings of national importance and special interest". The parish is largely rural, and contains the villages of Hollins Green and Glazebrook. The A57 road runs through the parish, and three of the listed buildings are milestones along this road. The other listed buildings are a church, a war memorial, a railway station, and a former manor house.
