Black was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the third round of the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft. [13]

He was assigned to the San Jose Giants of Low-A California League at the beginning of the 2022 season. [14] Between San Jose and Class A+ Eugene, in 2022 he was 6–4 with a 3.21 ERA in 24 starts over 112 innings in which he struck out 136 batters. [15] He was named an MiLB Organization All Star. [16]
