As of the census [5] of 2000, there were 4,432 people, 1,861 households, and 1,269 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 361.8/km2 (936.9/mi2). There were 1,931 housing units at an average density of 157.6/km2 (408.2/mi2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 95.62% White, 0.27% African American, 0.27% Native American, 1.06% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 1.31% from other races, and 1.42% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.33% of the population.
There were 1,861 households, out of which 27.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.9% were married couples living together, 15.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.8% were non-families. 27.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.87.
