Suillellus queletii (formerly Boletus queletii), commonly known as the deceiving bolete, is an uncommon, edible mushroom in the genus Suillellus .

Naming

Originally described by Stephan Schulzer von Müggenburg in 1885 as a species of Boletus , the fungus was transferred to Suillellus in 2014. The epithet queletii was given in honour of Lucien Quélet. [2] [3]

In 1796 Christiaan Hendrik Persoon described a type of bolete under the name Boletus erythropus and in the next 200 years the same name was widely used for a well-known species having red pores. But recently it was discovered that Persoon's mushroom had orange pores, that usage of the name B. erythropus was invalid, and now the red-pored species (after a separate change to the genus too) has to be called Neoboletus luridiformis). It is best not to use the ambiguous name Boletus erythropus any more, but according to Funga Nordica the fungus described by Persoon was actually Suillellus queletii. [4] [5] [6]

Description

The cap is hemispherical, latter flattening out, appearing olive to reddish-brown, rarely also dark red. The flesh is yellow, turning blue when cut. The pores are initially yellow, soon become orange, and finally can be reddish. [7] The stipe is smooth and golden yellow and the flesh has a slightly acrid taste. [8]

The spore powder is olive and under the microscope the spores appear somewhat spindle-shaped and measure about 10-14 µm × 5-7 µm. [7] [4]

Distribution and habitat

This mycorrhizal mushroom can be found in deciduous forest, at lower altitudes, under beech, oak or hazel. [7] [4]

It is uncommon in Europe and considered endangered in the Czech Republic. [9] In Asia, it has been recorded in Taiwan. [10]

The fruit bodies (mushrooms) have orangish-red, broadly convex caps that are up to 10 cm (3.9 in) in diameter, with small, dark reddish pores on the underside. The pale yellow stipe measures 4–9 cm (1.6–3.5 in) long by 1.5–2.3 cm (0.6–0.9 in) thick. All parts of the fruit body will quickly stain blue when injured or touched.

<i>Lanmaoa fragrans</i> Species of fungus

Lanmaoa fragrans is a rare species of bolete fungus in the family Boletaceae found in Europe. It has a brownish convex cap measuring 5–12 cm (2.0–4.7 in) in diameter that initially has a velvety texture before becoming smooth. The spindle-shaped stipe measures 7–9 cm (2.8–3.5 in) long by 3–5 cm (1.2–2.0 in) wide. It is yellow at the top and flushed with red in the lower portions, terminating with black at the very base. The yellow flesh is tinged with red under the cap cuticle. It bruises blue only after several hours of exposure to air. The pores on the cap underside are lemon-yellow to chrome-yellow and display a faint blue bruising reaction. Spores are elliptical and measure 9–14 by 4.5–6.5 µm; in mass they produce an olive-green spore print.

Imleria badia, commonly known as the bay bolete, is an edible, pored mushroom found in Eurasia and North America, where it grows in coniferous or mixed woods on the ground or on decaying tree stumps, sometimes in prolific numbers. Both the common and scientific names refer to the bay- or chestnut-coloured cap, which is almost spherical in young specimens before broadening and flattening out to a diameter up to 15 cm (6 in). On the cap underside are small yellowish pores that turn dull blue-grey when bruised. The smooth, cylindrical stipe, measuring 4–9 cm long by 1–2 cm thick, is coloured like the cap, but paler.
