Syrphus is a genus of hoverflies. [1] It can be distinguished from other genera of the tribe Syrphini because it is the only genus that has long hairs on the upper surface of the lower lobe of the calypter (as well as hairs on the rear margin of the calypter as in most Syrphini). [1]
Eristalis is a large genus of hoverflies, family Syrphidae, in the order Diptera. Several species are known as drone flies because they bear a resemblance to honeybee drones.
Dasysyrphus is a genus of hoverflies.
Platycheirus is a large genus of hoverflies. They are also called sedgesitters.
Blera is primarily a North American genus, though there are 3 species from Europe. The genus is characterized by the following characters:
Brachyopa is a Holarctic genus of hoverflies whose grey and brown colouration is unusual for this family and these flies can easily be overlooked amongst members of other fly families. The larvae can be found under the bark of dead branches and trees in decaying sap.
Orthonevra is a genus of hoverflies.
The Milesiini is a large and diverse tribe of hoverflies. They mimic wasps or hornets.
The Syrphini are a tribe of hoverflies.
Epistrophe grossulariae is a Holarctic species of hoverfly.
Parasyrphus lineolus is a Holarctic species of hoverfly.
Melangyna umbellatarum is a Holarctic species of hoverfly.
Megasyrphus erraticus is a Holarctic species of hoverfly associated with mature conifer woodlands and plantations.
Megasyrphus is a genus of hoverflies in the subfamily Syrphinae. It was formally a subgenus of Eriozona.
Melangyna novaezelandiae is a hoverfly endemic to New Zealand. It is a generalized pollinator of a large range of plants that are both native and exotic to the New Zealand flora. M. novaezelandiae is widespread throughout New Zealand, including in agricultural environments. The larvae of this species feeds on other arthropods and may have uses as a biocontrol agent.
Milesia bigoti is a species of hoverfly in the family Syrphidae.
Milesia ritsemae is a species of hoverfly in the family Syrphidae.
Milesia semperi is a species of hoverfly in the family Syrphidae.
