Herbert Mendo Ssegujja (born 27 September 1983), is a Ugandan comedian and actor, who performs under the name Teacher Mpamire. He is most famous for mimicking the Ugandan president, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. He assumes the stage name Teacher Mpamire. [1] [2]

Background and education

Ssegujja was born in Mukono Town, on 27 September 1983. After attending Bbowa Primary School, he was admitted to Greenlight High School, in Zana, along Kampala–Entebbe Road. He obtained his High School Diploma from Greenlight High School. [2]

He holds a Bachelor of Education degree from Makerere University, Uganda's oldest and largest public university. He was sponsored by President Yoweri Museveni to study in the Program in Comedy Performing and Writing at the American Comedy Institute, in New York City. [1] [2]

Career

As a teacher

In real life, Ssegujja is a teacher at Standard High School in Zana, approximately 10 kilometres (6 mi), southwest of the city centre of Kampala. [3] While there, he had the opportunity to teach alongside Arthur Mpamire, his former European History teacher at Greenlight High, on whom he based his stage name and character. [1] [2]

As a comedian

His performances have seen him stage shows in Uganda, Zambia, [4] Malawi, Kenya, Tanzania and other African countries. [5] [6] In 2016, Teacher Mpamire was named "discovery of year" at the Africa Youth Awards held in Accra, Ghana. [7] [8] He is also part of the Fun Factory cast in their weekly comedy shows at the National Theatre, in Kampala. [5]

Ssegujja has a special designer in the Democratic Republic of the Congo who measures and tailors his comedic attire. [1]

Family

Herbert Ssegujja is engaged to his long-time girlfriend, Carol Barekye. The customary introduction ceremony to her parents was held in December 2016. [6] [9]

Warren Kizza Besigye Kifefe, known as Colonel. Dr. Kizza Besigye, is a Ugandan physician, politician, and former military officer in the Uganda People's Defence Force. He served as the president of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) political party and was an unsuccessful candidate in Uganda's 2001, 2006, 2011, and 2016 presidential elections, losing all of them to the incumbent Yoweri Museveni, who has been President of Uganda since 26 January 1986. The results of the 2006 elections were contested in court, where the court found massive rigging and disenfranchisement. He allowed an early internal FDC election for a successor president, which took place on 24 November 2012.

Janet Kainembabazi Museveni is a Ugandan politician who has been the First Lady of Uganda since 1986. She is married to President Yoweri Museveni, with whom she has four children. She previously served as Minister for Karamoja Affairs in the Cabinet of Uganda from 27 May 2011 until 6 June 2016. Makerere University, Kampala is Uganda's largest and oldest institution of higher learning, first established as a technical school in 1922. It became an independent national university in 1970. Today, Makerere University is composed of nine colleges and one school offering programmes for about 36,000 undergraduates and 4,000 postgraduates. The main administrative block was gutted by fire in September 2020 and the cause of the fire is yet to be established.

The University Students' African Revolutionary Front (USARF) was a political student group formed in 1967 at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. The group, which engaged in study and activism and held regular meetings on Sundays, featured many students who would go on to become influential politicians. The Daily Monitor is a Ugandan independent daily newspaper. Its name is shared by the Saturday Monitor and Sunday Monitor, which are also published by Monitor Publications Limited. Daily Monitor averaged a daily circulation of 24,230 newspapers in September 2011. By the fourth quarter of 2019, that figure had dropped to 16,169 copies daily.

Badru Malimbo Kiggundu is a Ugandan civil engineer, academic and consultant, who serves as the chairman of the presidential select committee responsible for the supervision of the successful completion of both Isimba Hydroelectric Power Station and Karuma Hydroelectric Power Station. He was appointed to that position by Yoweri Museveni, the president of Uganda in August 2016. He concurrently serves as the Chairman of the board of directors of National Water and Sewerage Corporation. Patrick Idringi, known as Patrick Salvado, is a self proclaimed Ugandan comedian, actor, master of ceremonies, radio personality and engineer. He is also known as "The Arrogant Man". He was first runner up in the MultiChoice Africa organised comedy competition, Standup Uganda in 2009. He reached the semi-finals of the World's Funniest Person competition in 2016 and was nominated in 2017 and 2018 in the Savannah Comic Choice Awards as the Pan African Comic of the Year.He is also quite known for his sheer arrogance and hypocrisy
