Haute-Vienne Department of France in Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Limousin (province)

Limousin is a former province of the Kingdom of France. It existed from 1589 until 1790, when the National Constituent Assembly adopted a more uniform division into departments (départements) and districts (arrondissements). It is located in the foothills of the western edge of the Massif Central and surrounds the city of Limoges.

François Alluaud was a French manufacturer of Limoges porcelain, geologist and mineralogist. He was the grandfather of entomologist Charles Alluaud (1861–1949).

Timeline of Nancy

The history of Nancy, France, the capital city of Lorraine, dates back to at least 800 BC with the earliest signs of human settlement in the area. Early settlers were likely attracted by easily mined iron ore and a ford in the Meurthe River. A small fortified town named Nanciacum (Nancy) was built by Gerard, Duke of Lorraine around 1050.
