Trichodorus is a genus of terrestrial root feeding (stubby-root) nematodes in the Trichodoridae family (trichorids), being one of five genera. [2] They are economically important plant parasites and virus vectors. [3]
As originally described by Cobb in 1913, Trichodorus was the only genus in its family. However, in 1974 the genus was split into two genera in 1974 by Siddiqi, [4] Trichodorus and Paratrichodorus .
The genus, which is the largest in the family consists of 54 species. [5] The females are didelphic (two genital tracts), and are distributed worldwide.
Trichorids became of interest in 1951. [6] At that time Trichodorus christie (= Paratrichodorus minor ) was recognised as a pest of crops in Florida. [7]

Enoplea (enopleans) is a class, which with the classes Secernentea and Chromadorea make up the phylum Nematoda in current taxonomy. Hirschmanniella oryzae, i.e. rice root nematode (RRN), is among the major pests of rice and is the most common plant-parasitic nematode found on irrigated rice. Cobb in 1913, who found it on both sides of the United States on the roots of grass, corn, and citrus trees. Starting with his first publication in 1952 on the nematode fauna of Mount Bükk, over his dissertation in 1973 on the evolution of nematodes to his last days he was a very prolific scientist, publishing more than 200 manuscripts, chapters and books on the class of Nematoda. He described 530 taxa of nematodes and at least 60 nematode taxa are named after him, which shows the huge respect he had in the nematologists world.
