Underwater Hockey Wales

Underwater Hockey Wales (UHW; Welsh : Hoci Tanddwr Cymreig; HTC) is responsible for underwater hockey (also known as Octopush) in Wales. It is the association representing British Octopush Association (BOA) clubs based in Wales. Underwater Hockey Wales is affiliated to the Welsh Association of Sub Aqua Clubs  – the national governing body for underwater sports in Wales, comprising scuba diving, underwater hockey, and snorkelling. Underwater Hockey Wales aims to establish a structured and stable underwater hockey organization in Wales, to support individual, club and regional development. Underwater Hockey Wales is responsible for the training and management of Welsh national squads. The first training camp for the Wales national team was in November 2019 and further camps have taken place every few months. [5] Its objective is to create and maintain competitive Welsh underwater hockey squads in all categories, to compete in both regional competitions and in the BOA home international tournaments. [1] [4]

Underwater Hockey Wales is also responsible for organising the Welsh national championships for Welsh clubs teams which occurs on an annual basis. The most recent edition was its 46th held in 2022. [6]

The British Octopush Association currently has four of its 70 associated clubs in Wales, a large reduction since the COVID-19 pandemic, these are: Bangor University, Cardiff and Newport, Llwchwr, and Pembroke. [7] Pembroke is Wales most successful club, often winning the Welsh national championships, and regularly qualifying in the finals of the British national championship and competing in the top division of Nautilus. [8]

The Celtic Cup began in 2022 and is an annual tournament for Wales, Scotland, and Ireland national underwater hockey teams.

A special one-off post COVID-19 restart tournament took place in August 2021 which saw the Wales national team finished first in D Division. [10]

Badminton Wales is the national governing body for badminton in Wales. Formed in 1928 as The Welsh Badminton Union, in 1934 it was one of the founder members of the Badminton World Federation. WBU became a member of the European Badminton Union in 1968. Over 90 senior clubs are affiliated to Welsh Badminton Union, and its membership is nearly 4000.

The Welsh Bowling Association (WBA) is the governing body for men's outdoor bowling clubs in Wales. It has 10 affiliated counties and 286 affiliated clubs. The WBA organise competitions, including the county championship, and select and manage the national side. At the 2009 Atlantic Rim Championship in Johannesburg, the Welsh men's team finished third.

The Welsh Crown Green Bowling Association (WCGBA), founded 1927, is the national governing body for crown green bowling in Wales. The WCGBA organise competitions, including the Welsh Club Championship, and select and manage the national side.

The Welsh Indoor Bowls Association (WIBA) is the governing body for the indoor bowling clubs in Wales. It has 24 affiliated clubs. The WBA organise competitions, including the WIBA Club Championship, and select and manage the national side.

Welsh Fencing is the national governing body of fencing in Wales. In 2003 it had 34 affiliated clubs, with 260 adult and 559 junior members. Welsh Fencing organises competitions including the Welsh Open, and is responsible for the selection and management of the Wales representative squad, who compete in the Winton Cup and the Commonwealth Games. At the European and World Championships Welsh fencers represent Great Britain, if selected.

Hockey Wales is the national governing body for hockey in Wales. Established as the Welsh Hockey Union in 1996, by the merger of the Welsh Hockey Association and the Welsh Women's Hockey Association, it rebranded as Hockey Wales in 2011. Hockey Wales is responsible for the administration of all aspects of the game in Wales, including clubs, competitions, development, internationals, schools, umpiring and universities.

The Welsh Pétanque Association (WPA) is the governing body for the sport of pétanque in Wales. The WPA is affiliated to the Confédération Européenne de Pétanque (CEP) and the Fédération Internationale de Pétanque et Jeu Provençal (FIPJP). It aims to promote the sport's development for all people in Wales. The Welsh Pétanque Association organises competition at national and international level, including League and National Competitions and the Welsh Cup for Clubs—the winning club qualifying for the EuroCup —and is responsible for the selection of the Wales national squads, who compete in international events including the Celtic Challenge, European Championships and World Championships.
