Waterworld is a water park located in Festival Park, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. The park attracts 400,000 visitors per year.^[1] The park first opened in 1989 and is generally open year-round, but is closed for a few days of the week during term time.

History

In 1999 Mo Chaudry's family trust bought Water World from Rank Leisure for £1.5m, at the time the park was operating at a loss. Originally the main rides were raised up in an “treehouse” fashion. Up here were five water slides: super flume, python, black hole, space bowl and twister white knuckle ride. Early in the 21st century WaterWorld began turning profits. At some point in the early 2010s, a glass wall was removed and turned into a curved version stretching out into the car park. This provided more seats in this area for the cafe. In summer 2019, four new rides came to Waterworld as part of their 30th anniversary, and Stormchaser and Hurricane opened on 21 August, while the other two, Thunderbolt and Cyclone, opened a few days later on 24 August. The tallest rides in Tornado Alley overtake the Twister and become the tallest rides in the park and also in England. ^{[ citation needed ]}

Rides

The park's rides and attractions include: Thunderbolt, Cyclone, Hurricane, Stormchaser, Black Hole, The Nucleus, Space Bowl, Super Flume, Twister, Python, Rapids, Medium Sized Flumes, Toddler Slides, Bubble Pools, Outdoor Pool (seasonal), Interactive Jungle House, The Lily pads, Racing Slides, Wave Pool, Toddler Slide and the Assault Course.

The Nucleus

The Nucleus is an indoor water rollercoaster which transports the ride participant through 375 feet of ups and downs in a rubber ring. The height limit is 1.1 metres. After the rider climbs the stairs and collects a rubber ring, a lifeguard pushes them off. A blaster boosts them into a tunnel, after which there is a drop to a second blaster and tunnel, and finally a drop to a water blaster which slows the rider down and, if there's a queue, the ring is handed off to another person.The raft you use on the waterslide cannot be used on any tornado alley waterslide.^[2]

Space Bowl

The Space Bowl is UFO themed, formed into a spiral leading to a drop into a 2-meter tub of water. It is limited to riders who are strong swimmers because it is possible to drop out of the spiral head first.

Rapids

The rapids is a water-flowing feature in a circle shape.

Twister

The Twister was the tallest flume at Waterworld until 2019 when four new rides (Stormchaser, Hurricane, Cyclone and Thunderbolt) were built for Waterworld's 30th anniversary. Goggles are not permitted to be worn on the ride. After climbing to a high platform, the rider slides down a tube and around corners at fast speed, with mini water effects along the way. The rider creates a wave of water that falls into a pool beneath the exit. At the end a sign asks the rider to hurry to the exit in order to speed up operating times. A skull at the entrance was removed in 2017 speed of 22 Mph.

The Three Flumes

The Three Flumes are the Super Flume, Python and Black Hole. They are next-door to each other and they end up in the same pool. The pool depth is 1.2m.

Tornado Alley

Tornado Alley opened in 2019 (the parks 30th anniversary) and consisted of four new rides: Stormchaser, Hurricane, Cyclone and Thunderbolt. Thunderbolt is the tallest waterslide you can find in the uk, at a height of 55ft tall. It is also the fastest at 40kmh (25mph). Another exciting ride in tornado alley is Cyclone. It brings you down a dark tube with light effects, and soon into a cylindrical room. It rocks from side-to-side, until reaching a fast tube, leading into a cyclone, the raft makes a circle around, then soon falls into the middle. This then leads to the end of the waterslide. Hurricane and Stormchaser are much more simple, as they are just normal slides; Stormchaser with a raft and Hurricane without.

Water Country USA is a water park in York County, Virginia, United States, near Williamsburg, Virginia. It is the Mid-Atlantic's largest water park, and it offers live entertainment, shops and restaurants, water rides, and other family attractions, all of which have a 1950s or 1960s surf theme. It is owned by United Parks & Resorts. The park is just a few miles away from Busch Gardens Williamsburg, with which it shares clientele. Multi-park passes are available, and a parking pass at Water Country USA is valid for same-day entry to Busch Gardens Williamsburg.

Camelbeach Outdoor Waterpark is a water park located in the Poconos in Tannersville, Pennsylvania at Big Pocono State Park. Opened in 1998, it is the summer operation for Camelback Resort, which is a skiing and snowboard resort during the winter.

Wild Waters was a Water park in Silver Springs, Florida. It was the sister park of Silver Springs Nature Theme Park in Silver Springs. Because Wild Waters was adjacent to Silver Springs, it had many trees and shady areas. There were picnic areas, a snack bar, and an open-air fast food restaurant counter. The park also had a sand volleyball court and a gift shop.

Both White Water Bay and the nearby theme park Frontier City were sold again in a seven park package by Six Flags on January 11, 2007, for $312 million. ProSlide has received attention for being the first water slide manufacturer to build a water slide using linear induction motors and for designing the Mammoth watercoaster which was named the world's longest watercoaster by Guinness World Records in 2016. Since 1986, ProSlide has developed and designed water rides for water parks in over 40 countries around the world.

Calypso Theme Waterpark is a waterpark located in Limoges, Ontario, Canada, about 35 kilometres (22 mi) east of Ottawa. The park opened to the public on June 7, 2010.

Rapids Water Park is a water park in Riviera Beach, Florida, United States, that occupies 30 acres.

Zoom Flume is a water park in East Durham, New York. Zoom Flume is named after Zoom Flume, the first ride built there. Zoom Flume consists of nine slides, five play areas, and three restaurants. Zoom Flume is opened to public from The end of June through Labor Day.

Wet N Wild was an indoor water park situated in North Shields, Tyne and Wear, England. It was the United Kingdom's largest indoor water park when opened by Diane Youdale (Jet) on the 19th of July, 1993, a title subsequently claimed by Sandcastle Waterpark. The park was situated in the Royal Quays complex, and featured numerous slides, a wave machine, and rapids. It was confirmed Wet N Wild would reopen following a takeover by Moirai Capital Investments. As of 2020, the park has once again closed. It is currently unknown if it will reopen as a waterpark.

Raging Waters Sydney, formerly Wet'n'Wild Sydney, is a water park in the greater western Sydney suburb of Prospect, New South Wales, Australia, that opened on 12 December 2013. The park was announced on 11 September 2010 and was the third Wet'n'Wild water park operated by Village Roadshow Theme Parks, after locations on the Gold Coast and Las Vegas. On 2 July 2018, it was announced that the park had been acquired by Parques Reunidos who renamed the park Raging Waters Sydney for the 2019 season. It is the only attraction outside the United States owned by Palace Entertainment.

Aquatica is a chain of water parks owned and operated by United Parks & Resorts. Aquatica parks are operating in Orlando, Florida and San Antonio, Texas.

Splashdown is a water park located at the Tower Park complex near to Poole, Dorset, England. The park opened in 1990 and was one of the founding attractions at Tower Park. The park experiences approximately 180,000 visitors a year.

Wilderness at the Smokies is a resort located on Wilderness Territories property in Sevierville, Tennessee. It opened in 2008 as part of the new Bridgemont development, which, along with the resort itself, now includes shopping, dining, and conference facilities.
