"Whiplash" is a song recorded by South Korean girl group Aespa for their fifth extended play of the same name. It was released as the EP's lead single by SM Entertainment on October 21, 2024.
On September 23, 2024, SM Entertainment announced that Aespa would be releasing their fifth extended play titled Whiplash with the lead single of the same name on October 21. [1] On October 11, the track listing was released alongside the highlight medley teaser video. [2] Nine days later, the music video teaser was released. [3] The song was released alongside its music video and the extended play on October 21. [4]
"Whiplash" was written by Leslie from XYXX, composed and arranged by Neil Ormandy and Lewis Jankel with Marcus "MarcLo" Lomax and Rosina "Soaky Siren" Russell participating in the composition. [5] It was described as a EDM-based song featuring "strong and fast-paced bass and house beats" with lyrics about "moving forward without hesitation with your own standards and criteria without being confined by a frame". "Whiplash" debuted at number four on South Korean's Circle Digital Chart in the chart issue dated October 20–26, 2024; [7] on its component charts, the song debuted at number two on the Circle Download Chart, [8] number six on the Circle Streaming Chart, [9] and number seven on the Circle BGM Chart. [10] The song also debuted at number seven on the Billboard South Korea Songs in the chart issue dated November 2, 2024. [11] In Japan, the song debuted at number 13 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 in the chart issue dated October 30, 2024; [12] on its component charts, the song debuted at number 23 on the Top Download Songs, [13] and number 12 on the Top Streaming Songs. Prior to the release of Whiplash, on October 21, 2024, Aespa held a live event on YouTube, TikTok, and Weverse, aimed at introducing the extended play and its songs, including "Whiplash", and connecting with their fanbase. [28] They subsequently performed the song at three music programs in the first week of promotion: Mnet's M Countdown on October 24, [29] MBC's Show! Music Core on October 26, [30] and SBS's Inkigayo on October 27. "Black Mamba" is the debut single by South Korean girl group Aespa. Originally released as a standalone single on November 17, 2020, by SM Entertainment, the song was later included on the group's second extended play Girls, which was released on July 8, 2022. The song was written and composed by Yoo Young-jin, while also composed by Omega, Ella Isaacson, Gabriela Geneva (NIIVA), Jordan Reyes, Shaun Lopez, and Scott Chesak. Musically, "Black Mamba" was described as a pop, electropop and dance-pop track with a signature synth and EDM sound and bass that is paired with an addictive hook. The lyrics are about a being called "Black Mamba" that not only interferes with the members' and avatar's connection but also threatens their world and as such is abhorred by the members.
"Strawberry Moon" is a song by South Korean singer-songwriter IU. It was released on October 19, 2021, through EDAM Entertainment via Kakao M. "Strawberry Moon" was both written and composed by IU, with additional composition credits by Jonghoon Lee and Lee Chae-gyu.
"Savage" is a song recorded by South Korean girl group Aespa for their first extended play (EP) of the same name. It was released as the lead single on October 5, 2021, by SM Entertainment. Described as a "hyperpop-tinged title track", the song was written by Yoo Young-jin, who also composed along with Kirsten Collins, Jia Lih, and Hautboi Rich, and eventually handled the arrangement alongside Lih.
