Inner Mongolia,officially the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region,is an autonomous region of the People's Republic of China. Its border includes two-thirds of the length of China's border with the country of Mongolia. Inner Mongolia also accounts for a small section of China's border with Russia. Its capital is Hohhot;other major cities include Baotou,Chifeng,Tongliao,and Ordos.
The Mausoleum of Genghis Khan is a mausoleum dedicated to Genghis Khan,where he is worshipped as ancestor,dynastic founder,and deity. The mausoleum is better called the Lord's Enclosure,the traditional name among the Mongols,as it has never truly contained the Khan's body. It is the main centre of the worship of Genghis Khan,a growing practice in the Mongolian shamanism of both Inner Mongolia,where the mausoleum is located,and Mongolia.

The Ordos Desert is a desert/steppe region in Northwest China,administered under the prefecture of Ordos City in the Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region. It extends over an area of approximately 90,650 km2 (35,000 sq mi),and comprises two sub-deserts:China's 7th-largest desert,the Kubuqi Desert,in the north;and China's 8th-largest desert,the Mu Us Desert,in the south. Wedged between the arable Hetao region to the north and the Loess Plateau to the south,the soil of the Ordos Desert is mostly a mixture of dry clay and sand,and as a result is poorly suited for agriculture.
Baotou is the largest city by urban population in Inner Mongolia,China. Governed as a prefecture-level city,as of the 2020 census,its built-up area made up of its 5 urban districts is home to 2,261,089 people with a total population of 2,709,378 accounting for counties under its jurisdiction. The city's namesake,literally translated to "place with deer",is of Mongolic origin or "Lucheng",meaning "City of Deer". Alternatively Baotou is known as the "City of Steel in Gobi". Steel was a major industry in the city. Today,Baotou refines over half of the rare-earth minerals produced in the world. This has led to environmental contamination near the industrial sites.
Shapotou District is a district of Zhongwei,Ningxia,China,noted for the Tengger Desert,and bordering Inner Mongolia to the north and Gansu province to the west.
The Badain Jaran Desert is a desert in China which spans the provinces of Gansu,Ningxia and Inner Mongolia. It covers an area of 49,000 square kilometers. By size it is the third largest desert in China.
Ordos,also known as Ih Ju,is one of the twelve major subdivisions of Inner Mongolia,China. It lies within the Ordos Plateau of the Yellow River. The Tengger Desert or Tengri Desert is an arid natural region that covers about 36,700 km2 and is mostly in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in China.

Linhe–Ceke railway or Lince railway is a railway in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of northwestern China between Linhe District in Bayan Nur,and Ceke,a border post in Ejin Banner on the China–Mongolia border. The railway is 707 km (439 mi) in total length,and runs entirely in desert regions. The line was built with investments of ¥4.27 billion. It opened to freight operations in December 2009 and passenger service in November 2010,but has been plagued by sandstorms and shifting dunes,which have buried tracks and disrupted service.

The Mu Us Desert is a desert in northern China. Its south-eastern end is crossed by the Great Wall of China. The Mu Us forms the southern portion of the Ordos Desert and part of the Ordos Loop. The Wuding River drains the area,and then flows into the Yellow River.

Kubuqi Desert is a desert within the Ordos Basin in northwestern China,under the administration of the Inner Mongolian prefecture of Ordos City. Located between the Hetao plains and the Loess Plateau,it is part of the Ordos Desert along with the neighboring Mu Us Desert to its south,and is the 7th largest desert in China with an area of 18,600 km2 (7,200 sq mi).
