You're On Sky Sports

You're On Sky Sports was a topical football phone-in discussion television programme on Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports News Radio. Originally hosted by Rob Hawthorne then Rob McCaffrey and Gary Newbon, the show was chaired by Jason Cundy. There will always be one or two panel members, whether former football professionals or others involved with the game in some form. Regulars include Steve Claridge, Kenny Sansom, Peter Beagrie, Tony Gale and Warren Barton. The program usually aired at 10pm either the night of a UEFA Champions League match or a Premier League match that is aired on Sky Sports.

Sky Sports is a group of British subscription television sports channels operated by the satellite pay-TV company Sky, a division of Comcast. Sky Sports is the dominant subscription television sports brand in the United Kingdom and Ireland. It has played a major role in the increased commercialisation of British sport since 1991, sometimes playing a large role in inducing organisational changes in the sports it broadcasts, most notably when it encouraged the Premier League to break away from the Football League in 1992.

Rob Hawthorne is an English football commentator, currently working for BSkyB's Sky Sports. He is notable for his commentating alongside Andy Gray in the 2005 UEFA Champions League Final in Istanbul.

Robert McCaffrey is a British television presenter. He is most notable for presenting shows such as Goals On Sunday and You're On Sky Sports. McCaffrey also replaced Jeff Stelling as presenter of Soccer Special and enjoyed a spell presenting live Conference National matches.

As from the start of the 2007/2008 season, YOSS is regularly broadcast at 7.30pm on Saturday evenings for 55 minutes, and every Wednesday evening around 10pm for 90 minutes. Cundy hosts proceedings the majority of the time, other presenters are Geoff Shreeves, Paul Hawksbee and Chloe Everton.

Geoff Shreeves is a reporter on Sky Sports. He joined the channel in 1992, the first season of The Premier League. Shreeves went to Verulam School in St Albans. He made his reporting debut in 1999 alongside Clare Tomlinson. He can now be seen reporting on the touch-line in Premier League matches live on Sky Sports. Shreeves can also be seen reporting for Fox Sports before Champions League games. Shreeves is also a regular presenter for The Debate on Sky Sports.

Paul Hawksbee is a British sports radio presenter and comedy writer. He has presented the Hawksbee and Jacobs show alongside Andy Jacobs on talkSPORT since the station's inception in 2000.

Former features

The program previously featured a section entitled "The Press Perspective" where a major national newspaper's head Sports Writer phones in to discuss the football topics of the week. Henry Winter of The Daily Telegraph and Shaun Custis (albeit Chief Football Writer and not Sports Writer) of The Sun are regulars. Prior to the 2006-07 season, this section was known as "Journo Phono".

Henry Winter is an English sports journalist. He is currently the Chief Football Writer for The Times, and previously a Football Correspondent for The Daily Telegraph.

This mini-segment was once entitled "Stat's The Way the Footy Rumbles," a play on the phrase "that's the way the cookie crumbles", but is now known as "Stat's The Way I Like It".

Infamous incidents

Rodney Marsh was famously sacked by Sky Sports in January 2005 after a making a joke about the Asian tsunami that was judged to be in bad taste, saying: " David Beckham has turned down a move to Newcastle United because of trouble with the Toon Army in Asia". Marsh apologised on air, but this was not enough to save his job. [1]

Dave Roberts (sports broadcaster) English television executive and sports commentator

Dave Roberts is a UK-based former TV executive and ex-presenter and commentator specialising in association football. He previously worked for Fox Sports News and ESPN Star Sports in Singapore, ESPN in the USA and Sky Sports in the UK as well as a host of UK radio stations. As well as his broadcast work he is a fully qualified International football referee. He owns and operates his own UK based broadcast production company X-Cel Broadcast Limited. Roberts was also the BBC commentator on West Indian cricketer Brian Lara's world record breaking innings of 501 not out.
