The Virginia Beach mayoral election of 2018 took place on November 6, 2018. Voters elected the Mayor of Virginia Beach. It saw the election of Bobby Dyer.
The two candidates were Dyer, a physical therapist as well as a professor of government at Regent University [1] [2] and Ben Davenport, who had served as an at-large member of the Virginia Beach City Council since 2015. [3]
Dyer won despite being outspent by Davenport 5 to 1. [4]

Aaron Roosevelt Rouse is a former American football safety who last played for the Virginia Destroyers of the United Football League. He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft. He played college football for the Virginia Tech Hokies. Rouse was also a member of the New York Giants, Arizona Cardinals and Omaha Nighthawks.
In 2018, he entered and won the election for an at-large seat on the Virginia Beach city council. In February 2020, Rouse entered the race for Virginia Beach mayor, but he dropped out of the race in May.
Jody Moses Wagner is an American politician from Virginia Beach, Virginia. A Democrat, she served as State Treasurer of Virginia from January 2002 to January 2006, and as Virginia Secretary of Finance in the Cabinet of Governor Tim Kaine from January 2006 to August 2008. She was an unsuccessful candidate for United States House of Representatives in Virginia's 2nd congressional district in the 2000 election She was the Democratic Party nominee for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia in the 2009 election. She lost the lieutenant governor election to Republican incumbent Bill Bolling.
William Douglas Sessoms Jr. is an American politician who served as the mayor of Virginia Beach, Virginia from 2008 until his resignation in April, 2018. He was president and CEO of Towne Financial Services Group, a division of TowneBank of Hampton Roads, Virginia from 2011 to 2014.

Elaine Goodman Luria is an American politician and Navy veteran from the Commonwealth of Virginia who has served as the Representative for Virginia's 2nd congressional district in the United States House of Representatives since 2019. Luria's congressional district serves most of the heart of Hampton Roads, including all of Virginia Beach, Williamsburg and Poquoson and portions of Norfolk and Hampton. Before running for Congress, she served as a Navy officer for 20 years. Luria rose to the rank of commander and spent the majority of her career deployed on navy ships. Luria defeated Republican incumbent Scott Taylor in 2018. She is currently running for a second term and will face Taylor in a rematch.

He won the November 2018 election for mayor despite being outraised by his opponent Ben Davenport nearly 5 to 1.
The 2019 Virginia Beach shooting occurred on the afternoon of May 31, 2019, when DeWayne Craddock, a disgruntled city employee fatally shot 12 people and wounded four others in a mass shooting at a municipal building in the Princess Anne area of Virginia Beach, Virginia. He was shot dead by responding police officers.
