KM Music Conservatory (KMMC) is a higher education institution founded in 2008 by the A. R. Rahman foundation. Located in Arumbakkam, Chennai, in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, the conservatory offers a range of part-time and full-time courses in Hindustani and Western classical music and music technology. Composer A. R. Rahman is the founder and principal, Fathima Rafiq the executive director.

Faculty

Courses at KMMC are taught by an international group of full-time and part-time faculty from India, Europe and the US, specialising in musical performance, music theory and analysis, music history, musicology and music technology. Faculty experience includes professional work in the music industry as well as academic expertise in teaching and researching music in higher education. [1]

KMMC is developing a newly founded symphony orchestra, to serve as resident studio orchestra for AR Rahman's compositions and to perform for the general public in Chennai and elsewhere in India. [2]

In 2009 Sri Lankan composer Dinesh Subasinghe and Bangladesh composer Emon Saha became the first international students to join KMMC.

KM College of Music and Technology

KMMC became a full-fledged college offering degrees and diplomas in 2013. Students of KM have participated for the great composer and its founder A. R. Rahman's many movie scores, concerts and Audio CDs. [3] Their first-ever official release was Rhyme Skool with Katrina Kaif with Sa Re Ga Ma Productions and Katrina Kaif. [4]

Rhyme Skool is a two-part audio CD album of common nursery rhymes narrated by Bollywood actor Katrina Kaif. The album was produced by KM Music Conservatory and the Saregama Production Company. A. R. Rahman supervised the music, which was composed and orchestrated by his students at the KM Music Conservatory.

<i>O Kadhal Kanmani</i> (soundtrack) 2015 soundtrack album by A. R. Rahman

O Kadhal Kanmani is the soundtrack album, composed by A. R. Rahman, to the 2015 Indian Tamil film of the same name written and directed by Mani Ratnam. The soundtrack album consists of nine tracks each in original Tamil and Telugu version of the albums with one track "Maula Wa Sallim" being common to both. Majority of the tracks for the original version were penned by Vairamuthu. The lyrics to the Telugu version were written by Sirivennela Sitaramasastri.The lyrics to its Hindi version songs in its Hindi remake OK Jaanu is by Gulzar The songs are fusion of contemporary music with carnatic music as well as pure classical Indian music based songs in the genres—carnatic and Hindustani. The original score was produced by ensemble Qutb-e-Kripa along with Rahman. The score utilises the songs and re-performed carnatic compositions of musicians Tyagaraja and Annamacharya.

99 Songs is the soundtrack album composed by A. R. Rahman for the 2021 Indian film of the same name, directed by Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy and produced by Rahman's YM Movies, along with Jio Studios and Ideal Entertainment. The film which stars newcomers Ehan Bhat and Edilsy Vargas, also marked Rahman's maiden stint as a scriptwriter and producer respectively.

Dil Bechara is the soundtrack album, composed by A. R. Rahman with lyrics written by Amitabh Bhattacharya, to the 2020 Hindi film of the same name, directed by Mukesh Chhabra and produced by Fox Star Studios, starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjana Sanghi. The soundtrack album incorporates various genres. The title track served as a promotional single and the album was released on 10 July 2020 through Sony Music. Upon release, the album received mixed reviews from music critics, who praised its orchestration, duet collaborations, and harmonies, but pointed out unusual lyrics and musical overproduction.

<i>Bigil</i> (soundtrack) 2019 soundtrack album by A. R. Rahman

Bigil is the soundtrack album, composed by A. R. Rahman, to the 2019 Indian Tamil-language sports action film of the same name, directed by Atlee Kumar, starring Vijay in dual lead roles, along with Nayanthara, Jackie Shroff, Vivek and Kathir in other prominent roles. The soundtrack album consists of 5 songs, with 2 bonus tracks, all of them were penned by lyricist Vivek. The soundtrack album was released digitally on 27 September 2019, through the Sony Music record label.

"Verithanam" (transl. Frenzy) is an Indian Tamil-language song from the 2019 sports action film Bigil directed by Atlee. Composed by A. R. Rahman, the song featured lyrics written by Vivek and sung by actor Vijay, who also played the protagonist in the film. It is the first song Vijay has recorded for Rahman. The song was released by Sony Music on 1 September 2019, and its video version was unveiled on 1 November.

<i>Cobra</i> (soundtrack) 2022 soundtrack album by A. R. Rahman

Cobra is the soundtrack album composed by A. R. Rahman, to the 2022 Indian Tamil-language psychological action thriller film of the same name, directed by R. Ajay Gnanamuthu, starring Vikram, Srinidhi Shetty, Miya George, Mirnalini Ravi, Meenakshi Govindarajan, Irfan Pathan, Roshan Mathew and K.S. Ravikumar in lead roles. The film marks Rahman's fourth collaboration with Vikram after composing for Pudhiya Mannargal (1994), Raavanan (2010) and I (2015). The songs for the film featured lyrics written by Thamarai, Pa. Vijay, Vivek and Jithin Raj. The soundtrack was released at the audio launch held on 15 July 2022 at Phoenix Marketcity, Chennai.
