The 1997 Swedish Touring Car Championship season was the 2nd season of the championship. It was decided over six race weekends (comprising twelve races) at six different circuits.
Jan Nilsson won the second championship of the STCC.
It was two-time DTM champion Mattias Ekström's touring car debut year driving a black Volvo 850 GLT.

5 points were awarded to any driver who took part in qualifying.
Classified finishers in Race 1 were reversed to decide the Race 2 grid.

Denis Clive Hulme, commonly known as Denny Hulme, was a New Zealand racing driver who won the 1967 Formula One World Drivers' Championship for the Brabham team. Between his debut at Monaco in 1965 and his final race in the 1974 US Grand Prix, he started 112 Grand Prix, resulting eight victories and 33 trips to the podium. He also finished third in the overall standing in 1968 and 1972.
Michele Alboreto was an Italian racing driver. He was runner up to Alain Prost in the 1985 Formula One World Championship, as well as winning the 1997 24 Hours of Le Mans and 2001 12 Hours of Sebring sports car races. Alboreto competed in Formula One from 1981 until 1994, racing for a number of teams, including five seasons (1984–88) for Ferrari.

The season began on 31 March 2001 and ended on 21 October 2001 after eleven races held in Europe, and included for the first time the Spa 24 Hours as a premiere endurance event for the series.

Tommy Rustad is a Norwegian auto racing driver. He currently drives in the FIA European Rallycross Championship and occasionally in the FIA World Rallycross Championship. Tommy is the son of former well known Norwegian racer Ola Rustad.
The 1997 Australian Drivers' Championship was a motor racing competition open to drivers of racing cars complying with CAMS Formula Holden regulations. The championship winner was awarded the 1997 CAMS Gold Star as the Australian Drivers' Champion. It was the 41st running of the Australian Drivers' Championship, and the ninth to feature the Formula Holden category which had been developed during 1988. The championship began on 15 March 1997 at the Calder Park Raceway and ended on 3 August at Oran Park Raceway after seven rounds of a series which was promoted as the "Holden Australian Drivers Championship".
