Long jump track and field event

The long jump is a track and field event in which athletes combine speed, strength and agility in an attempt to leap as far as possible from a take off point. Along with the triple jump, the two events that measure jumping for distance as a group are referred to as the "horizontal jumps". This event has a history in the Ancient Olympic Games and has been a modern Olympic event for men since the first Olympics in 1896 and for women since 1948.

The jump is still the Olympic record and the second longest wind legal jump in history.

Leroy Russel Burrell is an American former track and field athlete, who twice set the world record for the 100 m sprint. He first set the world record in June 1991 with a time of 9.90 seconds. This was broken that September by Carl Lewis who ran 9.86 sec at the World Track and Field Championships where Burrell finished second in a new personal best time of 9.88 sec. In July 1994, Burrell set the world record for the second time when he ran 9.85 sec.

Heike Drechsler East German long jumper

Heike Gabriela Drechsler is a German former track and field athlete who represented East Germany and later Germany. One of the most successful long jumpers of all-time, she is a former world record holder and ranks third on the all-time list with her legal best of 7.48 metres in 1988. Her marginally wind-assisted jump of 7.63 metres (+2.1) in 1992 at altitude in Sestriere, is still the furthest a woman has ever long jumped. She is the only woman who has won two Olympic gold medals in the long jump, winning in 1992 and 2000.

Johanna Halkoaho Finnish long jumper and hurdler

Johanna Miia Maria Halkoaho is a Finnish 100m hurdler and long jumper. She is 165 cm (5'5") tall, and weighs 55 kg, and trains with Suodenniemen Urheilijat. Her highest honours include two medals at the 1996 World Junior Championships, a bronze in long jump and a silver in heptathlon. She is also the national indoor champion in the 60 meters hurdles and long jump in 2003, 2004 & 2006 national champion in 100 meters hurdles.

Dawn C. Burrell is a retired long jumper from the United States, who is best known for winning the gold medal at the 2001 IAAF World Indoor Championships. She represented the United States at the 2000 Summer Olympics. She is the younger sister of former 100 m world record holder Leroy Burrell.

Mauro Vinícius Hilário Lourenço da Silva, commonly known as Duda is a Brazilian long jumper. He is the 2-time World Indoor champion, winning the gold medal at the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Istanbul, Turkey, and again at the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships at Sopot, Poland, on 8 March 2014. He competed at the 2008 Olympic Games without reaching the final, but he did make the final 8 at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Sergey Morgunov is a Russian track and field athlete, specializing in the long jump. On June 20, 2012, he set the World Junior Record in the event, jumping 8.35m in Cheboksary, Russia. The jump surpassed the longest standing record on the books, set by Randy Williams while winning the gold medal at the 1972 Olympics. Morgunov's jump, set while winning the Russian Junior Championships also tied him for the best jump of the year, by any athlete, to that point in the 2012 Olympic year. The mark also qualified as the European Junior Record, formerly held by Spain's Eusebio Caceres.

George Kitchens is an American track and field athlete who competes in the long jump. He has a personal record of 8.23 meters for the event and was a member of the United States 2012 Olympics team.

2002 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships

The 2002 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships was organised by USA Track & Field and held from June 21 to 23 at the Cobb Track & Angell Field in Palo Alto, California. The three-day competition served as the national championships in track and field for the United States. The same facility would host this meet the following year, but this was the last year to use the three day format as the four-day format was adopted in 2003. The combined track and field events were contested at Edwards Stadium in Berkeley, California in the two days preceding the start of the main programme.

The women's triple jump event at the 2017 European Athletics U23 Championships was held in Bydgoszcz, Poland, at Zdzisław Krzyszkowiak Stadium on 13 and 14 July.
