It was their second full season with Mons Ivar Mjelde as manager, and they finished the season in 9th place. They also took part in the Norwegian Cup, reaching the quarter-finals stage before being beaten by Lillestrøm.

The 2013 Tippeligaen was the 69th completed season of top division football in Norway. The competition began 15 March 2013 and ended on 10 November 2013, when Strømsgodset defeated Haugesund 4–0 to win their second league title.
The 2013 season was Lillestrøm's 37th consecutive year in Tippeligaen and their second with Magnus Haglund as manager. They finished 10th in the league and were knocked out of the cup at the Semi-Final stage by Molde.
The 2013 season was Brann's 27th consecutive year in Tippeligaen and their third full season with Rune Skarsfjord as their manager. They participated in the Tippeligaen, finishing 8th, and the Cup where they reached the Third Round before defeat by Adeccoligaen side Mjøndalen.
The 2013 season was Strømsgodset's 7th season in Tippeligaen following their promotion back to the top flight in 2006. It was Ronny Deila's sixth season in charge, and he led them to their first Tippeligaen title since 1970. In the cup they were knocked out by 2. divisjon side Asker and they were knocked out of the UEFA Europa League by Jablonec in the 3rd qualifying round after beating Debreceni in the 2nd round.

The 2012 season is Aalesund's 6th consecutive year in Tippeligaen, it was Kjetil Rekdal's fourth full season as the club's manager. Aalesunds competed in the Tippeligaen, finishing 11th and the 2012 Norwegian Football Cup, where they were knocked out at the Fourth Round stage by Sandefjord. They also competed in the 2012–13 UEFA Europa League qualifying stages, defeating Tirana of Albania in the Second Round and then losing to APOEL of Cyprus in the Third Round.
The 2013 season was Rosenborg's 23rd consecutive year in Tippeligaen, their 46th season in the top flight of Norwegian football and first season with Per Joar Hansen as manager. They participated in the Tippeligaen, finishing second, the Cup and the 2013–14 UEFA Europa League, entering at the First qualifying round stage and reaching the Second qualifying round before an aggregate defeat to St Johnstone.
The 2013 season was Viking's first full season with Kjell Jonevret as manager. They finished 5th in the Tippeligaen and were knocked out of the cup by Adeccoligaen side Bryne in the Third Round.

The 2013 Hønefoss BK season was Hønefoss' second consecutive season in the Tippeligaen and their third season in the top flight of Norwegian football. Hønefoss finished bottom of the league, and therefore were relegated to the Adeccoligaen, whilst they reached the Third Round of the Cup losing to Alta of the 2. divisjon.
The 2014 season is Lillestrøm's 38th consecutive year in Tippeligaen and their third with Magnus Haglund as manager.
The 2013 season was Sarpsborg 08's 2nd season in Tippeligaen, following their promotion back to the top level in 2012. It was also their first season with Brian Deane as the club's manager. Sarpsborg 08 competed in the Tippeligaen, finishing 14th, entering the Relegation play-offs in which they defeated Ranheim 3-0 over two legs. They also competed in the cup where they reached the Second Round, losing to Kvik Halden of the 2. divisjon.
The 2014 season was Sogndal's fourth consecutive season in the Tippeligaen. They finished the season in 15th place, being relegated to the OBOS-ligaen, whilst also reaching the Fourth Round of the Norwegian Cup where they were beaten by Viking.
The 2013 season was Sogndal's third season back in the Tippeligaen. They finished the season in 12th place and were knocked out of the cup by Vålerenga in the Fourth Round.
The 2017 Norwegian Football Cup was the 112th season of the Norwegian annual knock-out football tournament. It began with qualification matches in March and April 2017. The first round was played on 26 April 2017 and the tournament concluded with the final on 3 December 2017.
