Local elections were held in Sweden on 9 September 2018 to elect the 20 county councils and 290 municipal councils. Advance voting was allowed between 22 August and 9 September 2018. The elections took place alongside the general elections.
Newly registered parties participated in the 2018 elections, such as the Citizens' Coalition. Many smaller and local parties which had already been established participated, such as the Swedish Senior Citizen Interest Party, Feminist Initiative, the Öland Party, the Laholm Party and more. [1]
Sweden held 20 elections for the Regional Councils. [2] This was the first election where all counties' administrative title had been or were officially being shifted into regions.

Gotland County is made up of one municipal council responsible for both local and regional matters and does not count towards the regional elections. [4]
The total number of seats nationwide totalled to 12,700, down from 12,780 in the 2014 elections. Turnout was 84.1%.

Dalarna County is a county or län in central Sweden (Svealand). It borders on the counties of Uppsala, Jämtland, Gävleborg, Västmanland, Örebro and Värmland. It also borders on the Norwegian counties of Hedmark and Trøndelag to the west. It was formerly known as Kopparberg County until the name was changed to that of the provincial region on 1 January 1997. The province of Dalarna is slightly larger than the county, as the westernmost part of Ljusdal Municipality belongs to it. Prince Gabriel, the son of Prince Carl Philip, is Duke of Dalarna.
Gävleborg County is a county or län on the Baltic Sea coast of Sweden. It borders the counties of Uppsala, Västmanland, Dalarna, Jämtland and Västernorrland. The capital is Gävle.
Jämtland County is a county or län in the middle of Sweden consisting of the provinces of Jämtland and Härjedalen, along with minor parts of Hälsingland and Ångermanland, plus two small uninhabited strips of Lapland and Dalarna. Jämtland County constitutes 12 percent of Sweden's total area, 49,443 km2 (19,090 sq mi) and is the third largest county in the country. The county capital is Östersund and the county governor, appointed by the Swedish government, is Jöran Hägglund, who leads the administrative board. Jämtland County borders the counties of Dalarna, Gävleborg, Västernorrland, and Västerbotten. It also shares a border with the Norwegian county of Trøndelag.
Elections in Sweden are held once every four years. At the highest level, all 349 members of Riksdag, the national parliament of Sweden, are elected in general elections. Elections to the 20 county councils and 290 municipal assemblies – all using almost the same electoral system – are held concurrently with the legislative elections on the second Sunday in September.
A regional council is a self-governing local authority. There are 21 regional councils, each corresponding to a county. Regional councils are governed by a regional assembly (regionfullmäktige) that is elected by the regional electorate every four years in conjunction with the general elections. The most important responsibilities of regional councils are the public health care system and public transportation. It is one of the principal administrative subdivisions of Sweden.

Region Scania is the regional council of Scania County in Sweden. Scania County was formed on January 1, 1999, by the amalgamation of the county councils of Malmöhus County and Kristianstad County and some of the tasks handled by Malmö Municipality.
Feminist Initiative is a radical feminist political party in Sweden. The party was formed in 2005 from a pressure group of the same name, and has since taken part in every election to the Riksdag and the European Parliament. The party won its first elected representative in 2014, with Soraya Post taking one seat in the European Parliament.
