Municipal elections were held in the Canadian province of New Brunswick on 28 November 2022 to elect local governments in newly formed municipalities following the 2023 New Brunswick local governance reform process. [2] The new municipalities came into existence on 1 January 2023. [3]

Contents

In total, there were elections for 50 new municipalities and 12 rural districts, [4] with a total of 446 elected positions. Of the 446 positions, 148 seats were elected by acclamation. 12 spots had no candidates at all and will be filled with by-elections in May 2023. [5] In addition, 13 elections were subject to recounts which took place between 1 December 2022 and 9 December 2022. Two recounts resulted in a change to the vote totals, but neither of these changed the winners of the elections.

Elections were not held in larger municipalities such as Moncton, Saint John and Fredericton which did not go through the local governance reform, [6] while others which saw minor changes only held elections in the areas that were added to their territory.
