Belgaum is a city in the Indian state of Karnataka located in its northern part along the Western Ghats. It is the administrative headquarters of the eponymous Belgaum division and Belgaum district. Parvatagouda Gaddigoudar is a member of the 16th Lok Sabha of India. He also represented the 14th Lok Sabha. He represents the Bagalkot constituency of Karnataka since 2004 and is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) political party.

Vivekrao is a member of the Belgaum Chamber of Commerce, a chairman of the Raibag Sugar Factory and a chairman of the Belgaum District Co-operative bank. He runs a chain of over 50 educational institutions in Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa. He is also a writer and among other things has written several novels. One of them, Dawn to Dust, was a best selling romantic tragedy novel in Europe and India. A Bollywood movie (Dhadkan) was based on it.

Belgaum Vidhana Sabha seat was part of the Karnataka state assembly in India, and part of Belgaum Lok Sabha seat. The seat ceased to exist after the assembly seats' boundary was redrawn in 2008. Now the city's constituencies are Belgaum Dakshin, Belgaum Uttar, and Belgaum Rural.
