Vijaya Karnataka is a Kannada newspaper published from a number of cities in Karnataka. The newspaper is published from Bengaluru, Hubballi, Mangaluru, Shivamogga, Kalaburagi, Gangavathi, Belagavi, Davanagere, Hassan, Chitradurga. <i>Varthabharathi</i> Kannada-language daily newspaper in India

Vartha Bharati also spelled as Vartha Bharathi is a Kannada daily News paper published simultaneously from Bangalore, Mangalore and Shimoga. It was launched in August 2003. Its main focus was to provide voice and due representation to the deprived and marginalised sections of the society. Janapith and Padma Bhushan awardee Dr.U.R.Anantha Murthy was a great admirer and a regular contributor to this newspaper. Once, in a public meeting he called vartha bharati "The Guardian of Karnataka. The Guardian is the best and most honest newspaper of England, and has created a revolution in the whole of its nation. In the same way, Vartha Bharathi is Karnataka's Guardian," he lauded. Abdussalam Puthige, the editor-in-chief of Varthabharati was inspired by veteran journalist Vaddarse Raghuram Shetty, who had launched Mungaru Kannada daily back in 1984. Mungaru was well known for its generous policy of providing fair representation to all castes, communities and sections of the society. It left a significant mark in the history of Kannada journalism by identifying and nurturing several talents from Dalit, Muslim, Christian and Backward Communities. Numerous well-known Kannada leftist, social activists and Dalit ideologues including U. R. Ananthamurthy, U. B. Banakar, Dr. Niranjan Aradhya, write regularly for the paper. In 2017, a Vartha Bharati journalist was detained and served a showcause notice by the Dakshina Kannada police. The notice was later stayed by the Karnataka High Court. In 2017, Vartha Bharati’s social media page was blocked by Facebook. Though it was later restored, there was no clear explanation as to why it happened.

1980 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election 1980 legislative assembly elections in Tamil Nadu

The seventh legislative assembly election to Tamil Nadu was held on 28 May 1980. The election was held two years before the end of the term of M. G. Ramachandran administration, as it was dissolved for the failure of state machinery by the then President of India Neelam Sanjiva Reddy. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam allied with the Indian National Congress (Indira) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam with Janata Party. Despite their victory at the 1980 Lok Sabha polls, DMK and Indira Congress failed to win the legislative assembly election. AIADMK won the election and its leader and incumbent Chief Minister, M. G. Ramachandran was sworn in as Chief Minister for the second time.

Abdussalam Puthige is the Editor-in-Chief of Varthabharathi, a Kannada daily Newspaper, published from Mangalore the coastal city of Karnataka and Bangalore, the state capital. The first issue of Vartha Bharathi hit the stands on 29 August 2003 from Mangalore. The Bangalore edition was launched later, on 29 August 2006.

Abbasia Begum Mecci (1922–1970) was a member of the legislative council of the Indian state of Mysore during the 1960s. She is one of the very few Muslim women of her days to have achieved that status. She took M.Sc. Degree from Central College in 1961.

M. S. Krishnan, or MSK, was an Indian trade unionist and politician. MSK became involved in student movement, and would leave his studies unfinished to become a full-time labour organizer in Bangalore. He was jailed on a number of occasions. He donated all property he had inherited to the Communist Party. MSK was elected to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly four times as a CPI candidate - twice from the Malleswaram constituency and twice from the Rajajinagar constituency. K. R. Achar (1894–1976) was an Indian politician, member of parliament, and member of the Karnataka Legislative council.

Syed Ghouse Mohiyuddin was an Indian politician, Journalist, and member of Karnataka Legislative Council. He was also Editor of the Daily Al-Kalam News Paper for the last 35 years, devoted to the cause of the I.N.C. and Hindu Muslim unity. He published "Pavithra Quaran" in Kannada and was a translator of the "Bhagavad-Gita" into Urdu. He was the author of many approved educational books.
