Alma is a former unincorporated community. It was the location of a work camp for the county Department of Corrections in Lane County, Oregon, United States until 2008. The camp was purchased by a non-profit called Veterans Legacy Oregon to create a residential facility treatment site for veterans. [2] Alma is located on Siuslaw River Road near the Siuslaw River, 22 miles (35 km) west-southwest of Eugene. [3]

History

Alma was named in 1886 for a local woman. [4] A post office was established at Alma in 1888, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1933. [5]

The Deadwood Creek Bridge is a covered bridge in western Lane County in the U.S. state of Oregon. Built in 1932, the 105-foot (32 m) Howe truss structure carries Deadwood Loop Road over Deadwood Creek. The crossing lies upstream of the rural community of Deadwood in the Siuslaw National Forest of the Central Oregon Coast Range. The bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Pawn was a historic unincorporated community in Lane County in the U.S. state of Oregon. It lay at the headwaters of the North Fork Siuslaw River, where Sam Creek and West Branch join to form the river in the Siuslaw National Forest of the Central Oregon Coast Range. Downstream is the unincorporated community of Minerva, and further downstream, near the mouth of the river on the Siuslaw River is the city of Florence.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Elijah Bristow</span> American pioneer and Oregon settler

Elijah Bristow (1788–1872) was the first white settler to stake a claim and build a permanent cabin in 1846 in the upper Willamette Valley, in what is now Lane County, Oregon, United States. He and his wife Susannah Gabbert Bristow established the first church and donated land for the first school in Pleasant Hill.
