Anne Western CBE (born 27 December 1955) [1] [ failed verification ] is a Labour Party politician and former Leader of Derbyshire County Council.
Western represents the Barlborough and Clowne division on Derbyshire County Council. [2] Barlborough is in Bolsover District, a traditionally Labour-voting area. She was first elected to Derbyshire County Council in 1997. She was Deputy Leader of the council from 2004-09. In the 2005 elections, her seat was uncontested. [3] Previously, when Labour were in power, she had responsibility for Children's Services (previously Health and Social Care). She has also sat on Barlborough Parish Council. After the 2009 Derbyshire County Council election on 4 June 2009, when Labour lost 16 seats to retain 22, she became the Leader of the Labour group. In the 2009 elections, nearly all of Labour's seats were in either the districts of Bolsover, Chesterfield or North East Derbyshire.
Western became the first female leader of Derbyshire County Council in May 2013. In the 2013 Derbyshire County Council election, Labour took 43 seats, the Conservatives 18 and the Liberal Democrats 3. She won with 1519 votes, [4] with UKIP coming second with 526 votes.
Dennis Edward Skinner is a British former politician who served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolsover from 1970 to 2019. He is a member of the Labour Party.
Bolsover District is a local government district in Derbyshire, England. It is named after the town of Bolsover, which is near the geographic centre of the district, but the council is based in Clowne. At the 2011 Census, the district had a population of 75,866. The district is along with North East Derbyshire, Borough of Chesterfield and Bassetlaw District is a non-constituent member of the Sheffield City Region.

Clowne is a town and civil parish in the Bolsover district of Derbyshire, England. The population at the 2001 Census was 7,447 increasing to 7,590 at the 2011 Census. It forms part of the Bolsover constituency. Clowne lies 9 miles (14 km) north east of Chesterfield and 7 miles (11 km) south west of Worksop. It is mentioned in the Domesday Book as Clune. The name is derived from the Celtic Clun for a river.
