Antje Nauta-Sijtema, also written as Antje Sytema and Antje Sietema (born 16 May 1930) was a Dutch kortebaan speed skater from Warga. She won many competitions and prizes in the late 1940s and 1960s; mainly between 1948 and 1955. [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]

Biography

Sietema already participated in speed skating competitions when she was young. She won the first prize in February 1937 in Roordahuizum in the 5–6 years old category. [8] [9]

Sytema started winning with main prizes in the winter of 1946–47. She won prize money finishing fifth in a pairs competition with Joh. Zwart in early 1947 in Leeuwarden [10] and individually in Warga. [11] Her first victory was three weeks later on 23 February in an under-16 pairs competition with Albert Hofstra. [12]

In the winter of 1949-50 she won many prizes, including winning in Wartena. [13]

The next winter she won in December 1950 in Oosterlittens (bearing Tjitske Minkema) [14] and Donkerbroek (besting Afke Stoker). [15] She finished second in Midwolda on New Year's Day in Groningen. [16] She was not very successful in the winter of 1952-53 by only winning a third price in Genemuiden (behind Tine de Vries and Annie van der Meer) and was beaten in some other competitions. She continued winning in the winter of 1953-54 including in Drachten [20] and Nijelamer. [21]

In the winter of 1954-55 she won in a pairs competition within a few days in Joure, [22] Kortezwaag [22] and Oudehorne [23] with Tjerk Nauta, with whom she would marry later in 1955. In that winter she also won several individual prizes and won in Tzummarum [24] and Veenhoop. [25] After her marriage in 1955 she did not compete in many competitions in the winter of 1955–56. She competed in late January and in February 1956. She was not successful in Folgeren [26] and Leeuwarden [27] but won some prizes in Joure [28] and Wijckel. [29]

She won a small prize in January 1961. [30] She rode her last competitions in the winter of 1962–63 in pairs competition with her husband Tjerk, including winning in Oldeboorn [31] and finishing second in Kortezwaag. [32]

After her career Sytema stayed connected with the speed skaters. She was a member of the organizing committee of reunion for women's kortebaan speed skaters in the 2010s. [33]

Personal

Sytema was born on 16 May 1930 in Warga as the daughter of Nijske (1900–1993) and Sjoerd Sytema (1902–1982). She married to Tjerk Nauta on 16 September 1955 in Grou. They stayed living in Warga.
