"Anxiety" is a song by American rapper and singer-songwriter Doechii,independently released to YouTube on November 10,2019. The song was re-recorded in 2025 following it gained traction on social media platforms,being published on March 4,2025 through Top Dawg Entertainment and Capitol Records.[1][2]
"Anxiety" was recorded by Doechii during the recoding session for her first mixtapeCoven Music Sessions in 2019.[3] The song sample "Somebody That I Used to Know" by Gotye and Kimbra.[4] She published the song independently on her YouTube channel on November 10,2019.[5]
On September 15,2023 Sleepy Hallow published a song of the same title featuring Doechii as a single form her studio album Boy Meets World.[6] The new version gained traction in early 2025 on the original song on the social media platform TikTok.[7] Doechii decided to re-record her vocals of her solo version,publisching it to digital streaming platforms on March 4,2025 through Top Dawg Entertainment and Capitol Records.[8][9]
Reception
Its release had limited reception,since Doechii did not have a large following at the time. In February 2025,a couple years after its initial release,users of the app TikTok discovered the song and started creating trends that accompanied the song.[10]
Critical reception
Robin Murray of Clash wrote that the song "crosses multiple lands",stressing the "soul vocal,some revelatory lyricism,and hard-hitting flows" for which "the bluntest lines shine out ". Murray also wrote that in the lyrics the listener could find "Doechii working towards self-forgiveness,embracing a rounded maturity that can be lost amid the brash glare of the spotlight".[11] Elias Andrews of HotNewHipHop wrote that the 2025 version the rapper "digs more into the nervy intensity of the single" appreciating the "irregular,somewhat goofy rhythm" from the semple beacuse it "serves as a template for Doechii's vocal approach. She alternates between rapping and singing,proving that she do both masterfully".[12]
Release
Since 2019,demand for a streaming release has been high,with Doechii posting a video to the platform in early 2025 to suggest that the release was forthcoming.[10] On March 4,2025,"Anxiety" was released to digital streaming platforms by Top Dawg Entertainment and Capitol Records.[1]
