Arthur is an urban settlement in Ida County, Iowa, United States. The population was 222 at the 2020 census. [2]
Arthur was platted in 1885. [3] It was named for Chester A. Arthur, 21st President of the United States. [3]

As of the census of 2020, [7] there were 222 people, 95 households, and 59 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,514.4 inhabitants per square mile (584.7/km2). There were 111 housing units at an average density of 757.2 per square mile (292.4/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 94.6% White, 0.0% Black or African American, 0.0% Native American, 0.5% Asian, 0.0% Pacific Islander, 1.8% from other races and 3.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino persons of any race comprised 2.3% of the population.
Of the 95 households, 34.7% of which had children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.0% were married couples living together, 7.4% were cohabitating couples, 35.8% had a female householder with no spouse or partner present and 16.8% had a male householder with no spouse or partner present. 37.9% of all households were non-families. 33.7% of all households were made up of individuals, 10.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years old or older.
The median age in the city was 38.8 years. 25.2% of the residents were under the age of 20; 5.9% were between the ages of 20 and 24; 29.3% were from 25 and 44; 24.8% were from 45 and 64; and 14.9% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 48.2% male and 51.8% female.

Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.5% of the population.

The average household size was 2.17 and the average family size was 2.68.
The median age in the city was 47.5 years. 20.9% of residents were under the age of 18; 4.9% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 21.4% were from 25 to 44; 31.1% were from 45 to 64; and 21.8% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 48.5% male and 51.5% female.

Arthur is a part of the Odebolt–Arthur–Battle Creek–Ida Grove Community School District. It was a part of the Odebolt–Arthur Community School District, [10] until its merger with the Battle Creek–Ida Grove Community School District on July 1, 2018. Schools serving the community include OABCIG Elementary Odebolt in Odebolt, OABCIG Middle School in Odebolt, and OABCIG High School in Ida Grove. [11]
Ida County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census the population was 7,005, making it the state's eighth-least populous county. The county seat is Ida Grove. The county was authorized by the Iowa Legislature in January 1851 as a packet of projected counties in unorganized territory of western Iowa.
