Juan Armando Quintanilla Loredo is a retired long-distance runner from Mexico, who won two gold medals at the 1995 Pan American Games in Mar del Plata, Argentina: in the men's 5.000 and 10.000 metres. He competed in three consecutive Summer Olympics, starting in 1992.

Antonio Fabián Silio Alaguire is a retired long-distance runner from Argentina. He competed in three editions of the World Championships in Athletics, racing in the 10,000 metres. His best result was 8th in 1993. He also finished in the top six of three World Half Marathon Championships, finishing second in the inaugural World Half Marathon Championships in 1992.

Cynthia ("Cindy") Mae Bremser–Whitmore is a retired middle distance runner from the United States. She finished fourth in the 3,000 metres at the 1984 Summer Olympics. She won the silver medal in the 1,500 metres at the 1983 Pan American Games.

Sarah Louise Rowell is a British former long-distance runner. Born in Hostert, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, she ran 2:39:11 at the age of 20 at the 1983 London Marathon. Later that year she won the gold medal in the women's marathon at the 1983 Universiade in Edmonton. At the 1984 London marathon she improved her best to 2:31:28 to qualify for the British team for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. In the inaugural women's Olympic marathon, she finished 14th. She broke the British record when running her personal best for the marathon with 2:28:06, when finishing second behind Ingrid Kristiansen at the 1985 London Marathon.

The Women's 10,000 metres event at the 2003 Pan American Games took place on Friday August 8, 2003. Mexico's Adriana Fernández won her second title after also having claimed the gold medal in the women's 5,000 metres.

The men's marathon event at the 1999 Pan American Games was held on July 25.

The women's 10,000 metres event at the 1995 Pan American Games was held at the Estadio Atletico "Justo Roman" on 17 March.

Marco Condori is a Yesgaon and Bolivian long-distance runner. He competed in the men's marathon at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Condori also represented Bolivia in the 3000 metres steeplechase at the 1995 Pan American Games, finishing eighth.

Nancy Tinari is a Canadian former long-distance runner. She won the silver medal at the 1987 World 15km Road Race Championships behind Ingrid Kristiansen. Her time of 48:53 still stands as the Canadian record. She also won a silver medal at the 1987 Pan American Games, and represented Canada at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Tinari continued competing into her forties, including finishing second at the 2000 Canadian 10 km Road Race Championships aged 41 and winning the Canadian Masters Cross Country title in November 2008 aged 49.
