Ayotlan was a state located along the upper reaches of the Armeria River in the general vicinity of El Grullo in Jalisco. It should not be confused with the municipality of the same name that is in Jalisco which is significantly further east.
Ayotlan was a state prior to the Spanish incursion which had tributary states at Tlepantequipa and Tlaquitetequi. It was conquered by the Spanish in 1525. After this it was incorporated into the domain of Autlan.

Jalisco is a state in Western Mexico that is divided into 125 municipalities. According to the 2020 Mexican Census, it is the third most populated state with 8,348,151 inhabitants and the seventh largest by land area spanning 78,595.9 square kilometres (30,346.0 sq mi). The largest municipality by population is Zapopan, with 1,476,491 residents, while the smallest is Santa María del Oro with 1,815 residents. The largest municipality by land area is Mezquitic which spans 3,363.60 km2 (1,298.69 sq mi), and the smallest is Techaluta with 79.20 km2 (30.58 sq mi). The newest is San Ignacio Cerro Gordo, established in 2007 out of Arandas.
Atemajac de Brizuela is a municipality and small town in the southeast sierra of Jalisco, Mexico, 64 km southwest of Guadalajara, between Highways 80 and 401. The municipality had a population of 6,367 in 2014.

Los Altos de Jalisco, or the Jaliscan Highlands, is a geographic and cultural region in the eastern part of the Mexican state of Jalisco, famed as a bastion of Mexican culture, cradling traditions from Tequila production to Charrería equestrianism. Los Altos are part of the greater Bajío region of Mexico.
The Jalisco New Generation Cartel or CJNG, formerly known as Los Mata Zetas, is a Mexican organized crime syndicate based in Jalisco which is headed by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, one of the world's most-wanted drug lords. The cartel has been characterized by its aggressive use of extreme violence and its public relations campaigns. Although the CJNG is particularly known for diversifying into various types of criminal rackets, drug trafficking remains its most profitable activity. The cartel has also been noted for cannibalizing some of its victims, sometimes during the training of new sicarios or cartel members, as well as using drones and rocket-propelled grenades to attack its enemies.
Nemesio Rubèn Oseguera Cervantes, commonly referred to by his alias El Mencho, is a Mexican drug lord and leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), an organized crime group based in Jalisco. He is the most-wanted person in Mexico and one of the most-wanted in the U.S. Both governments are offering up to Mexican $30 million and US $10 million, respectively, for information leading to his arrest.
On 6 April 2015, a convoy of the Jalisco State Police was ambushed by suspected members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), a criminal group based in Jalisco. The attack occurred in a mountain road in San Sebastián del Oeste, Jalisco. Fifteen policemen were killed and five were wounded; no CJNG casualties were confirmed. According to police reports, as the police convoy reached a part of the road surrounded by mountains, the CJNG opened fire at the police units from the sides using high-caliber rifles, grenade launchers, and explosives with gasoline. The element of surprise prevented the police from repelling the aggression. The CJNG members burned several vehicles along the highway to halt reinforcements. The attack lasted roughly 30 minutes. When government reinforcements reached the scene, the CJNG gunmen had left.
Rosalinda González Valencia is a Mexican businesswoman and suspected money launderer of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), a criminal group based in Jalisco. She also been known by her alias La Jefa. She was married to Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, Mexico's most-wanted man and the CJNG leader until 2018. Born in rural Michoacán, Rosalinda grew up in a family of 18 siblings and was the eldest of her sisters. Her family originally grew avocados, but eventually turned to cultivating marijuana and opium poppy. In the 1970s, her family formed the Milenio Cartel, the predecessor group of the CJNG, and began trafficking narcotics from Mexico to the United States.
Santa Rita is a town in the southwest of the Ayotlán Municipality, Jalisco. It has 2,608 inhabitants during the 2020 Mexico census, it is located at 11.4 km from Ayotlán, 36 km from Atotonilco El Alto and 21 km from Yurécuaro, Michoacán.
