The Academy Award for Best Visual Effects is an Academy Award given for the best achievement in visual effects.
The 41st Academy Awards were presented on April 14, 1969, to honor the films of 1968. They were the first Oscars to be staged at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Los Angeles, and the first with no host since the 11th Academy Awards.

A. D. Flowers was an American special effects artist best known for his work on Tora! Tora! Tora!, which won him an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects at the 43rd Academy Awards. He was also a credited special effects artist for The Godfather and Apocalypse Now.
