The 2010 California State Assembly elections took place on November 2, 2010. Voters in California's 80 State Assembly districts voted for their representative. The Democratic Party gained two seats: the 5th district from the Republicans and the 31st district from a termed-out Independent, expanding their majority to 52.

California State of the United States of America

California is a state in the Pacific Region of the United States. With 39.6 million residents, California is the most populous U.S. state and the third-largest by area. The state capital is Sacramento. The Greater Los Angeles Area and the San Francisco Bay Area are the nation's second and fifth most populous urban regions, with 18.7 million and 8.8 million residents respectively. Los Angeles is California's most populous city, and the country's second most populous, after New York City. California also has the nation's most populous county, Los Angeles County, and its largest county by area, San Bernardino County. The City and County of San Francisco is both the country's second-most densely populated major city after New York City and the fifth-most densely populated county, behind only four of the five New York City boroughs.

California State Assembly lower house of the California State Legislature

The California State Assembly is the lower house of the California State Legislature, the upper house being the California State Senate. The Assembly convenes, along with the State Senate, at the California State Capitol in Sacramento.

The California Democratic Party is the state branch of the United States Democratic Party in the state of California. The party is headquartered in Sacramento, and is led by acting-Chair Alex Gallardo-Rooker.

The Secretary of State of California is the chief clerk of the U.S. State of California, overseeing a department of 500 people. The Secretary of State is elected for four year terms, like the state's other constitutional officers, and is restricted by term limits to only two terms. The current Secretary of State, Alex Padilla, took office on January 5, 2015.

California's 20th congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of California. It is centered in the upper Central Coast region, and includes the counties of Monterey and San Benito and portions of Santa Clara County and Santa Cruz County.

Californias 23rd congressional district American political district

California's 23rd congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of California. The current district is centered in areas of the southern San Joaquin Valley and southern Sierra Nevada, the Tehachapi Mountains, and the northwestern Mojave Desert. It includes the cities of Mojave, Ridgecrest, and parts of Lancaster, as well as most of Bakersfield. Sequoia National Park and Sequoia National Forest are within it. By PVI, the district is the most Republican-leaning in the state.

2006 California elections

The California state elections, 2006 took place on November 7, 2006. Necessary primary elections were held on June 6. Among the elections that took place were all the seats of the California's State Assembly, 20 seats of the State Senate, seven constitutional officers, and all the seats of the Board of Equalization. Votes on retention of two Supreme Court justices and various Courts of Appeal judges were also held. Five propositions were also up for approval.

Previously she served in the California State Assembly from 2006 to 2012. She is a Democrat. Before her political career, she worked in marketing and sales.

The 2008 California State Assembly elections took place on November 4, 2008. Voters in all 80 of California's State Assembly districts voted for their representative. Other elections were also held on November 4. Only five seats changed parties: one to the Republican Party and four to the Democratic Party, which maintained a majority with 51 seats.

Ruth Ann Gaines American politician

Ruth Ann Gaines is the Iowa State Representative from the 32nd District. A Democrat, she has served in the Iowa House of Representatives since 2011. Gaines was born, raised, and resides in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1965 she graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Des Moines. She has a B.A. in drama/speech from Clarke College and a M.A. in dramatic art from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
