The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow and Tim Sendra awarded the album 4 stars and states "Cannonball plays near his peak; this is certainly the finest album by this particular sextet". [5] The Penguin Guide to Jazz described the album as "not revelatory but very entertaining". [4]

Mercy, Mercy, Mercy! Live at "The Club" is a 1966 album by jazz musician Julian "Cannonball" Adderley. It received the Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Jazz Performance – Group or Soloist with Group in 1967. Though the original liner notes state that it was recorded at the Club DeLisa in Chicago, it was actually recorded at Capitol's Hollywood studio with an invited audience and an open bar. The reason for this discrepancy, according to the liner notes in the CD reissue, is that Adderley and the new manager of Club DeLisa were friends, and Adderley offered to give the club a bit of free publicity.
Radio Nights is an album released in 1991 featuring previously unreleased live radio broadcasts by the Cannonball Adderley Quartet, Quintet and Sextet from New York City's Half Note Club jazz club. They were recorded by Alan Grant and broadcast live on radio in the last week of 1967 and the first week of 1968. The montage of Adderley's monologues are taken from a recording made at the Keystone Korner jazz club, San Francisco. At the time of the recordings, Adderley was under contract to Capitol.

The album was partially rereleased with additional recordings and alternate takes as Cleanhead & Cannonball on CD by Landmark Records in 1988 and the complete recordings issued on Fresh Sound in 2013.
