Chantel Ellen Malone (born 2 December 1991 in Puerto Rico [2] ) is an athlete representing the British Virgin Islands who competes in the long jump and sprinting events. [3] [4] [5]

Contents

Malone attended Althea Scatiffe Primary School before attending BVI High School, which Is now known as Elmore Stoutt High School. [6]

In college, she was the Conference Champion for both indoor and outdoor track and field events, named All-American at the NCAA Division 1 Championship, and was a finalist at the World Junior Championships in two events, the long jump and the 400. She placed fourth at the Commonwealth Games, won gold at the CAC Championships, and most recently won a silver medal at the NACAC Championships. [6]

In August 2015, Malone joined with Digicel as a brand ambassador. She will act as a spokesperson for the brand with a special focus on youth and sports throughout the British Virgin Islands and be featured in Digicel's advertising campaign, highlighting the territory's most reliable 4G network. [6]

At the 2019 Pan American Games, Malone became the first athlete to win a medal for the British Virgin Islands in the history of the Pan American Games, winning the gold medal at the long jump event. [7] [8]

She represented the British Virgin Islands at the 2020 Summer Olympics. [9] [10]

Tahesia Gaynell Harrigan-Scott is a sprinter from the British Virgin Islands. She was the first woman to represent the British Virgin Islands at the Olympics.

The men's high jump was an event at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. There were 43 participating athletes from 27 nations. The maximum number of athletes per nation had been set at 3 since the 1930 Olympic Congress. The qualification mark was set at 2.29 metres. The event was won by Javier Sotomayor of Cuba, the nation's first victory in the men's high jump. Patrik Sjöberg of Sweden earned silver, becoming the first man to win a third medal in the event, though he never won gold. Sweden was only the third country to have three consecutive podium appearances. A three-way tie for third could not be resolved by countback, so bronze medals were awarded to Tim Forsyth, Artur Partyka, and Hollis Conway.

Adhemar Ferreira da Silva was a Brazilian triple jumper. He won two Olympic gold medals and set four world records, the last being 16.56 metres in 1955 Pan American Games. To date, he remains the only track and field athlete from South America to have won two Olympic gold medals.

Eldred Henry is an athlete from the British Virgin Islands competing in the shot put and discus throw. He represented his country at the 2016 Summer Olympics finishing last in the qualifying round. Earlier, he competed at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and 2015 Pan American Games. He is the current national record holder in several events.
