Senate elections were held in the Czech Republic on 10–11 October 2014, with a second round on 17–18 October 2014. [1] One-third of Senate seats (27 out of 81) were elected, [1] along with approximately 62,300 local council seats. [2] The election date was announced by the President Miloš Zeman in June, 2014. [3]

Miloš Zeman 3rd President of the Czech Republic

Miloš Zeman is a Czech politician serving as the third and current President of the Czech Republic since 8 March 2013. He previously served as Prime Minister of the Czech Republic from 1998 to 2002. As Leader of the Czech Social Democratic Party during the 1990s, he transformed his party into one of the country's major political forces. Zeman was Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of the Czech parliament, from 1996 until he became Prime Minister two years later in 1998.

In same year, the party formed a governing coalition in the Prague City Assembly and Zdeněk Hřib became the current Mayor of Prague.

The first direct presidential election in the Czech Republic was held on 11–12 January 2013. No candidate received a majority of the votes in the first round, so a second round runoff election was held on 25–26 January. Nine individuals secured enough popular signatures or support of parliamentarians to become official candidates for the office. Miloš Zeman (SPOZ) and Karel Schwarzenberg qualified for the second round of the election.

Tomio Okamura Czech politician

Tomio Okamura is a Czech-Japanese far-right politician and entrepreneur. He is the founder of the Czech political parties Dawn of Direct Democracy and Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD). Senate elections were held in the Czech Republic on 7 and 8 October 2016, with a second round on 14 and 15 of October. The first round was held alongside regional elections and several municipal referendums, notably in a referendum in Brno on the location of the town's train station.

2014 Prague 10 by-election

A by-election for the Prague 10 Senate seat was held in the Czech Republic on 19-20 September 2014 and 26-27 September 2014. The election was held after incumbent Jaromír Štětina got elected member of European Parliament. Voter turnout was 15.8% for first round and 8.75% for second round. It was the lowest voter turnout for any Senate election so far.

2004 Czech regional elections

Regional elections were held in the Czech Republic to elect the Regional Councils of 13 regions on 5–6 November 2004. They were won by Civic Democratic Party (ODS), whilst the ruling Czech Social Democratic Party (ČSSD) was heavily defeated, finishing third.

2010 Czech municipal elections

Municipal elections were held in the Czech Republic on 15 and 16 October. The Civic Democratic Party won the most seats, although it lost in Prague. The elections were a success for the Czech Social Democratic Party and TOP 09, and were considered a revival for the Christian and Democratic Union – Czechoslovak People's Party.

2018 Czech Senate election

Senate elections were held in the Czech Republic on 5 and 6 October 2018 alongside municipal elections, with a second round held on 12 and 13 October 2018. The Conservative Civic Democratic Party (ODS) won the election with 10 seats. Governing parties ANO 2011 and the Czech Social Democratic Party were heavily defeated, winning only 1 seat each. The Communist Party lost its last seat in the Senate when Václav Homolka failed to be re-elected, meaning the party would be without representation in the Senate for the first time in the history of Czech Republic. The election was considered the first major win for the opposition to Andrej Babiš' Cabinet. Commentators including Josef Kopecký also noted ODS confirmed their position as the main opposition party, ahead of the Czech Pirate Party.

2019 Prague 9 by-election

A by-election for the Prague 9 Senate seat in the Czech Republic will be held on 5 and 6 April 2019. The incumbent Senator Zuzana Baudyšová announced her resignation on 29 January 2019. She was elected as a candidate of ANO 2011. Baudyšová resigned due to health difficulties.
