The Mohonk Preserve is a nature preserve in the Shawangunk Ridge, 90 miles (140 km) north of New York City in Ulster County, New York. The preserve has over 8,000 acres (32 km2) of cliffs, forests, fields, ponds and streams, with over 70 miles (110 km) of carriage roads and 40 miles (64 km) of trails for hiking, cycling, trail running, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and horseback riding. It is also a major destination for rock climbers, hosting 50,000 climbers each year who enjoy more than 1,000 climbing routes.
Honeoye Lake Boat Launch State Park is a nine-acre (3.6 ha) state park located along the southeastern shore of Honeoye Lake, one of New York's Finger Lakes. The park is located in Ontario County off East Lake Road, and offers a boat launch in addition to facilitating lake access for fishing and ice fishing.
The Minnewaska State Park Preserve is a 22,275-acre (90.14 km2) preserve located on the Shawangunk Ridge in Ulster County, New York on US 44/NY 55, five miles (8.0 km) west of New York State Route 299. The park, which features scenic overlooks of the nearby Catskill Mountains, is primarily used for picnicking, hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing and swimming. The park is managed by the Palisades Interstate Park Commission and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
John Boyd Thacher State Park is a state park located 15 miles (24 km) southwest of Albany, New York, near Voorheesville, in Albany County on State Route 157. Located mostly atop the Helderberg Escarpment, the park has several hiking trails that offer panoramic views of the Green Mountains in Vermont and the Taconic Mountains of the Hudson Valley.

New York State Route 157 (NY 157) is a state highway in Albany County, New York, in the United States. It runs from an intersection with NY 156 near the hamlet of Berne to a junction with NY 85 in the hamlet of New Salem. NY 157 is a two-lane, narrow, winding route that runs along an escarpment overlooking the Capital District. The route provides access to John Boyd Thacher State Park and Thompson's Lake State Park. NY 157 was assigned to its current alignment as part of the 1930 renumbering of state highways in New York.
New York State Route 157A (NY 157A) is an east–west state highway located in Albany County, New York, in the United States. It serves as a 5.88-mile-long (9.46 km) loop route of NY 157 through the towns of Knox and Berne, veering a considerable distance to the south to serve the hamlet of East Berne and indirectly connect NY 157 to NY 443. NY 157A rejoins NY 157 near the access road to Thompson's Lake State Park, which is along NY 157. It is a two-lane highway its entire length. NY 157A, like its parent route, was assigned in 1930 to its current routing.

Empire Orienteering Club (EMPO) was founded in 1987 to promote the sport of orienteering and develop suitable maps in the Capital District of New York State. The club was founded by Ed Downey, Ed Jaeger, Eric Hamilton and William Jameson during a meeting at the Guilderland, NY public library in the Spring of 1987. Today, EMPO organizes approximately 15 events per year, and has produced nearly 25 specialized, five color orienteering maps in the Albany, NY area. EMPO is a member of Orienteering USA.
Thompson Park is a 675-acre park and 925-acre nature reservation. The entire park is connected to sports fields operated by Monroe Township High School, and located in the municipalities of Monroe Township and Jamesburg in Middlesex County, New Jersey. It is the largest park in the Middlesex County Park System, and features Lake Manalapan at its center.
