Smithtown is a town in Suffolk County, New York, on the North Shore of Long Island. It is part of the New York metropolitan area. The population was 116,296 at the 2020 Census.
Connetquot River State Park Preserve is a 3,473-acre (14.05 km2) state park and conservation area in the Town of Islip in Suffolk County, New York in the United States. The park contains the Long Island Environmental Interpretive Center as well as the Southside Sportsmens Club District, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Nissequogue River State Park is a 521-acre (2.11 km2) state park located on the banks and bluffs of the Nissequogue River in Kings Park, New York. The park was opened in 2000, and established on the waterfront portion of the former Kings Park Psychiatric Center.
The Stony Brook Grist Mill is a Registered Historic Place property in Stony Brook, Suffolk County, New York. Its construction in 1699 created the Mill Pond astride the Brookhaven-Smithtown boundary. The mill structure itself dates back to at least circa 1751.
Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve is a state park on Lloyd Neck, a peninsula extending into the Long Island Sound, in the Village of Lloyd Harbor, New York. It is operated by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
The Nissequogue River is an 8.3-mile (13.4 km) long river flowing from Smithtown, New York into the Long Island Sound. Its average discharge of 42.2 cubic feet per second (1.19 m3/s) is the most of any of the freshwater rivers on Long Island. The river, like all other freshwater rivers on the island, is totally derived from groundwater. Its name is derived from one of the Algonquian-speaking Nissequaq tribe in the area.
First Presbyterian Church is a historic Presbyterian church at 175 East Main Street in Smithtown, Suffolk County, New York. It was built in 1825 and the sanctuary is a rectangular, two story frame structure measuring 56 feet (17 m) by 34 feet (10 m). It is sheathed in wood shingles and covered by a gable roof. It features an engaged, square tower surmounted by a tiered, balustraded belfry. The tower has a Palladian window at its second level.
Obadiah Smith House is a historic home located at Kings Park in Suffolk County, New York. It was built about 1708 and is a two-story, heavy timber frame, five-bay center entrance dwelling, with a side gable roof and interior end chimneys. It is operated as a house museum by the Smithtown Historical Society.
Rassapeague, also known as the Francis C. Huntington and Susan Butler Huntington Estate, is a historic home located at Nissequogue in Suffolk County, New York. The estate house was built about 1865 and is a large Italianate house with additions completed in 1915. It is a two-story, wood frame, clapboarded dwelling with a large back service wing and porch. Also on the property are a "wine cellar," barn, and cottage.

The district encompasses an estate with five contributing buildings and two contributing structures. The estate house is a large 18th-century house with alterations completed in 1924. It is a two-story, wood-frame, five-bay structure with a center hall plan. Also on the property are a contributing L-shaped barn, a cottage, a pump house. two sheds, and a well cover.

The district encompasses an estate with two contributing buildings, one contributing site, and two contributing structures. The estate house is a two story with full attic structure with a gambrel roof designed in 1910. Also on the property are a contributing carriage barn / stable and a well house.
Land of Clover, also known as the Lathrop Brown Estate, is a national historic district located at Nissequogue in Suffolk County, New York. The district encompasses an estate with six contributing buildings and one contributing structure. The estate house is a large two-story brick Georgian Revival structure built between 1912 and 1918. It is loosely patterned after Westover Plantation. Also on the property are a contributing horseshoe stable, superintendent's cottage, ice house and garage, U-shaped barn, small barn and a water tower. It is now a boarding school known as The Knox School. The Estate house is currently known as Houghton Hall. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.
Woodcrest, also known as the Homer Reboul Estate, is a national historic district located at Nissequogue in Suffolk County, New York. The district encompasses an estate with two contributing buildings and two contributing structure. The estate house is a large two story Shingle Style structure, with a gambrel roof and an attached service wing, built in 1895. It is surrounded by formal gardens. Also on the property are a contributing carriage house and pump house.
James W. and Anne Smith Phyfe Estate is a national historic district located at Nissequogue in Suffolk County, New York. The district encompasses an estate with two contributing buildings. The estate house is a large two-story Neoclassical style structure built in 1904. It features a colossal attic pediment carried on two-story Ionic order columns enclosing a cantilevered balcony on the second floor. Located nearby is a contributing carriage house.
William J. Ryan Estate, now Nissequogue Golf Club, is a national historic district located at Nissequogue in Suffolk County, New York. The district includes the principal dwelling, now the club house designed by Bradley Delehanty. The estate house was built in 1930 and is a two-story, brick structure with a five bay center block connected to perpendicular wings by hyphens. The entrance features a three bay projecting center section that rises to a pedimented roof gable; at the ridge is a circular attic window.
Saint James District is a national historic district located at St. James in Smithtown Town, Suffolk County, New York. The district includes 21 contributing buildings, two contributing sites, and one contributing structure. Prominent buildings within the district are the Timothy Smith House and dependencies, "Deepwells" (1845–47) and dependencies, St. James Episcopal Church and dependencies, the St. James Railroad Station, and St. James General Store. The newest structure, the 1922-built Saint James Fire Department was also included in the district, but was modernized in recent decades.

There are two groups of historic buildings: the mill complex and Blydenburgh Farmhouse and related buildings.
