She is an Olympic and a European gold medalist with the team. Individually, she won several medals on beam in various international competitions. She is the 2004 Olympic bronze medalist and the 2004 European silver medalist on this event.

Bontaş scored a perfect ten on floor in the all around event of the 1989 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
